IGT May 20th Mets vs. Jays

Let's get one, eh? Dillon Gee vs. Henderson Alvarez.

Interleague baseball blows, might I add. Stupid DH.

3 run firsts are always nice.

Too bad for Rasmus, that was too terrific a play to get screwed on.

Re: IGT May 20th Mets vs. Jays

Nobody has to throw Bay a firstbaseman's mitt.

And I'm not sure how failure makes him a dope.

Re: IGT May 20th Mets vs. Jays

OK, I have no idea if Baxter is for real or just a flash in the pan but, until he falls off the cliff, you've got to ride this horse until he drops.
Dude is just all over every pitch he cuts at.

Yeah. There's no reason why a guy that pinches like Baxter can't do it regularly. And he's not pinching because he's too old and slow to play every day, like Staub and Kranepool eventually* were. Baxter's been Heeped into the pinch hitting role; the perception is that though he's young enough, he's not good enough to crack the top of the depth charts.

Baxter's been great this year. But still, I'd like to see some more at-bats. He's giving the Mets some good problems for when Bay and Tejada return.

*Some might argue "always" instead of "eventually".

Re: IGT May 20th Mets vs. Jays

Fact remains that, at least at the moment, Baxter is hitting better than Ike, Duda, Nieuwenhuis, and, hell, better than everyone not named Murphy or Wright.
Make him play his way out of the line-up.

Rusty was definitely an 'eventually'. Yeah he was never fast, but those who missed his early career and/or his first go-around in Queens missed a pretty damn good OFer in his day.

Baxter is a professional baseball player having the time of his life. Enjoy!

How far down the road do you go with Ike??

Re: IGT May 20th Mets vs. Jays

So with just two pitches thrown and no chance of being PH'd-for, does Parnell get to come out for the 8th?

Same situation as earlier in the week. We'll see if "the White Jerry" has learned anything.

Re: IGT May 20th Mets vs. Jays

It seems like every double and non-double (the Baxter play from Saturday) we've hit in this series has involved a sliding play at the base.
It's like they're hitting them all in a 'No Standing' zone.

Re: IGT May 20th Mets vs. Jays

Well Parnell gets to pitch to at least one hitter in the 8th so there's that.

I just hope that top-8 doesn't come back to burn us; three singles plus a walk and two balls back to the screen - but no runs!!

I'm ready to farm him out now. That doesn't make him a dope and it doesn't mean Bay is the next firstbaseman.

For sure. For someone so slow that he always looked like he was running in place, like a hamster on a treadmill, Staub was a great outfielder. He could get to the ball, catch it, and his throwing arm was fantastic -- strong and accurate. One might not have divined Staub's defensive prowess from watching him waddle around the bases as if he were running in quicksand.

Now Byrdak is throwing?

I advocate for leaving guys in, but not for not having a replacement ready should the worm turn.

I swear it's like these relievers draw straws out there to decided whose turn it is to suck that day!!

And, yes, we ARE going to regret that top 8th.

Re: IGT May 20th Mets vs. Jays

And are we really going to turn the ninth inning over to Frank Francisco?? I hope the Mets score seven runs in the top of the ninth.

I'm tempted to leave Byrdak in there, even though the Jays are due to send up three righties.

I was not allowed the option of watching because Verizon FIOS are all a bunch of dickbags.

Having said that, I caught the last few innings on MLB's ticker and in the car while running errands. Glad FrankČ was able to close the door.
