Now if we could only figure out a way to convince the Pirates to use our BP pitcher to start tonight's game.

it was Manny Acosta.

McDonald fans the side in the top of the first. Bloody hell.

On the plus side, the Mets' first provided enough wind power to supply 12,540 homes in the Three Rivers area.

Nicky helps Dickey.

Nice-- and rare-- hitting job with two strikes, but as a baserunner, Nickeas makes an excellent bunter.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 22 2012 05:35 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
Barajas singing along with "Low Rider" before stepping into the batter's box. Just a really likable dude.

Edgy MD May 22 2012 05:43 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
Lewin finally describing Dickey's experience as "sexually abused." They've been using the euphemism "physically abused" most of the season.

I don't think I realized just what good stuff McDonald has, he's fun to watch.

Edgy MD May 22 2012 06:02 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
Nickeas is doing a lot of chasing tonight.
|
Frayed Knot May 22 2012 06:46 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
Cedeno's 2-out infield hit didn't produce any runs but it "cleared" Nickeas for the next inning.

Dickey's tied his career high with 10 Ks, and pitched one of his better games in blue-and-orange, and he likely won't get the win, thanks to a Nieuwenhuis bobble while scooping up Harrison's should-have-been-double.

Gwreck May 22 2012 06:50 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
Tie game? Our bullpen? Dickey pitching like he is? No way do I take him out for a pinch hitter.

Even leading off the inning when we need runs desperately? I'd be shocked if they don't PH oe: on the other hand I am kind of surprised to see McDonald gone
|
Gwreck May 22 2012 06:53 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
For what it's worth, both Howie and Josh are in agreement with me. I'd leave Dickey in this game.

Same here. It's not like Torres is doing a significantly better job with the bat of late than RAD. OE: Case in point.

I'm gonna sue Terry Collins for that move.

Mike Baxter = Doubles machine

bmfc1 May 22 2012 06:57 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
Bad move. Over managing by Shorty. RA is pitching well, the bullpen is "struggling", Torres can't hit.
|
Gwreck May 22 2012 07:01 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
Sure enough, we got two men on without Torres (Dickey). Let's go David. RBI time.
|
Frayed Knot May 22 2012 07:01 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
Now we got two on AND we got Wright up AND Cruz is frustrated.

NOW is the time that Ike will finally put one [crossout:2czg1mun]into the Allegheny[/crossout:2czg1mun] in play, but still not a hit.

metirish May 22 2012 07:11 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
Christ, that was an awful swing by Ike.....

Frayed Knot May 22 2012 07:14 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |

That was one of those where it looks like he decides to swing before the pitch is even made. His problem is that when he looks to recognize the pitch before deciding whether to swing, those are the ones he's late on.

We're fortunate that McCutcheon's not on 2nd after that play.

Byrdek is???????

Frayed Knot May 22 2012 07:27 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
At least Byrdak's been mostly reliable this year out of the pen ... even if he's the only one.

thought Ron was a little heavy on the praise for Murphy on his attempted catch that he made a mess of.

Those over-the-shoulder plays are always tough so it's hard to kill Murph for not making it ... even though he should have. One problem is that Duda seemed to be playing just short of the river out there. There were three balls tonight* where you couldn't say he SHould have made the plays but maybe a better/quicker and not-so-deep playing RFer might have. * the one Murph dropped; the double by Harrison just before that; and the foul fly a few innings earlier.

Good guys win. Suck it, Pittsburgh.
|
Ceetar May 22 2012 08:22 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
On the Murphy one it almost seemed like he was so focused on getting back that he stopped tracking the ball and really was just reacting as it came down.

Not to excuse Santana's giveaway last night but the HR was preceded by one of those bloops between 2B and CF that Turner might have gotten to. It was one of those difficult plays over his head but a quicker read and/or more acceleration going back makes that a harmless solo HR.
|
Edgy MD May 22 2012 09:11 PM Re: IGT, 5/22 vs. PIT: Dickey Day |
I bring it up in another thread, but there's a pretty defensible argument that Duda did his job in the top of the eighth and should have been lifted after that.
