"Mike" Nickeas. As in, "the Mets activated Josh Thole and sent Mike Nickeas to Buffalo, keeping Rob Johnson as the backup catcher."

Stacking the lineup with righties pays off early.
Now we just need Johan to NOT give up another four run lead and we'll be OK.

Seventy seven pitches through seven.

Remember how awesome it was when a pitcher was getting the job done, and he came up in the eighth or ninth, and the crowd rose and gave him a standing ovation, and whether or not he acquitted himself well at the plate, that ovation seemingly bouyed him when he came out in the ninth and reached back for a little extra to finish the game.

Let's see some of that shit today.

There's my Davis double -- my prediction was right, only about 18 hours too early.

On the other hand, Ike has swung at each of the last four pitches he's seen. Maybe that's a good thing, I dunno.

Why not? We're up 5-0 in the ninth and playing for first. Or second and third, anyway.

Which alignment do you use in the ninth?

Send Nieuenhuis out to left?
Send Ike to first and send Rottino to left?
Send Ike to first and send Nieuenhuis to left?
Send Ike to first and send Rottino to right and Nieuenhuis to left?

And Santana pitches, right? RIGHT?!

Re: IGT 5/26/12: Sunny Day Game vs Padres

Nickeas up with the bags juiced. I wonder if he was given orders to swing at the first pitch and spare Santana the delay and the trip to the plate.

Re: IGT 5/26/12: Sunny Day Game vs Padres

I'd just put Ike at 1st and slide Rottino out to LF.
No need to make wholesale changes for sake of your best defensive lineup - particularly because Nickeas is about to bust this thing open.

And, yes, Santana pitches.

oh, there was a ton of that today.

4PA day for Santana. he clearly was not going to swing in the 9th.

was a fun day indeed. Santana actually hit 90-91 a couple of times too, and was just cruising. I think there was one hard hit ball that Duda caught at the track and that was it. a ton of soft crappily awesome contact. You could smell the CG in the 5th. Very good day indeed, and Wright didn't even get a hit (although a 390 foot out)

aside, really really nice hand for Ike Davis when he was announced and even greater after the hit. Love that Mets fans are supporting him.

Yeah, and definite credit to Sandy and Terry and his teammates for working with him and supporting him, giving the fans a cue.

I can certainly hope that the support would be the same if his name was Ike Diaz, but...

let's pretend it would be until there's evidence otherwise.

Crowd was jovial in general. didn't boo Nickeas or Turner (hell, didn't even boo the Padres) even though maybe they had reason to. But it was a low stress game right from the get go so that make things easier too.
