DFA

The Twinks designated Jason Marquis --- a pitcher over whom too much Met fan blood has been spilled -- for assignment. I never thought much of him, but neither do I much value letting a guy go for nothing, so perhaps the Mets could look into flipping DJ Carrasco for him, and maybe some cash.

A 3.47 ERA looks awfully good. It would be the second best ERA in the Mets starting rotation.

Yeah, um, sorry about that. BAD fingers. BAD!

I never trust pitchers who don't get some strikeouts. At least 5-per-9 please. But you know, the match may be there. Carrasco makes $1.2 million this season.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr May 22 2012 11:22 AM Re: DFA |
I mean, I'd rather have him than Carrasco. But then, if I'm Terry/Sandy, I'd rather have daily cockpunches than Carrasco.
|
Lefty Specialist May 22 2012 11:41 AM Re: DFA |
Terry strikes me as the kind of guy who, if it would help the team, would take daily cockpunches.

Benjamin Grimm May 22 2012 11:42 AM Re: DFA |
He would probably see them as a source of energy.

batmagadanleadoff May 22 2012 11:43 AM Re: DFA |
Ouch.

Marquis lives in Staten Island and has wanted to be a Met for years. He's not great but he was adjusting to a new league. Maybe finally playing at home will rejuvenate him. If not, he won't cost very much. And he can probably out-hit half of the team.

Ceetar May 22 2012 02:08 PM Re: DFA |
hes real bad.

* Marquis lives in Staten Island -- or at least grew up there. Not sure if he still calls it home
|
Edgy MD May 22 2012 02:20 PM Re: DFA |
Marquis still makes Staten Island a home base. Plenty of property for newly rich dudes there.

Frayed Knot May 22 2012 02:27 PM Re: DFA |
Yeah, can't hurt to look into things.

Nothing to lose really...

Are you an attorney FK? I've written briefs that aren't parsed as well as that.

Edgy MD May 22 2012 05:05 PM Re: DFA |

Well, if they claim him off waivers there's about $2.5 million to lose. If they trade Carrasco for him, there's about $1.575 million plus Carrasco to lose, along with whatever marginal value he may have provided bouncing between Buffalo and Flushing this year.

I've advised myself not to answer that.

Quite true.

Marquis clears waivers and hits free agency.

He'd look great in a Buffalo Bisons uniform to replace Chris Young when Young rejoins the big club.
|
Frayed Knot May 28 2012 02:06 PM Re: DFA |

Except that now, as a FA, he is free to take the best offer and I'm not sure being warehoused in Buffalo until and if he's needed is going to be the one he jumps on.

Egbert's from SI. that's good enough for me.

On 8/18/1946 Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in the Minors against the Jersey City Giants at 24,000 seat Roosevelt Stadium. Maybe thats it. I know he never played in Hinchcliffe Stadium in Paterson.
|
Ceetar May 28 2012 09:35 PM Re: DFA |
Could be. That's probably it, probably remembering reading this article about the stadium and thinking I should drive over there and take a peek since I'm so close.

Ashie62 May 28 2012 09:43 PM Re: DFA |
Very nice brick stadium in its' day. I have played softball there and it had a "bigtime" feel to it.
