George Wright Revisted

So, apart from everything else today, how do you like how Wright looked at short? He had two chances, which is two more than he had last year, so he gets a shortstop rating in Strat-O-Matic and everything.

George Wright --- Hall of Famer in both cricket and baseball, as well as blessed with an adamantium infused skeleton, razor-sharp claws, animalian sensory powers, and a mutant healing factor.

He's a popular trivia question answer: The only person to have played first-class cricket* and in the Majors. The popular incorrect answer is Chili Davis.

George's cricinfo profile.

*In a nutshell, first-class cricket is the highest level of domestic cricket played in a country and above, including international cricket.

So how did David Wright look? No Cal Ripken, huh?

I remember SF infielder Andre Rogers being described as "an ex-Cricket player from the Bahamas".

This is time for the obligatory Connie Stevens picture, but I don't know how.
(And if you have to ask "why?", you're either a kid or not a TV trivia buff.)

Once did some research on Rodgers' cricket career. He didn't really play at any level out of high school..........but this is a discussion for another occasion.

Davey Johnson would have played Wright there, too.

How do you think David Wright looked at shortstop? Does anybody have an opinion to that effect?

I didn't see it. I think it looks like a bad idea generally in that I'd hate to see him go down with a spiking. I kinda what leave him alone and get out of his way.

It's Samuel Beckett (derailing the thread for a 3rd time).

Beckett it is.

Re: George Wright Revisted

On the one play where David failed to stay on the base for the throw I think it was more a case of him not thinking the throw was coming his way then him bailing out early for fear of spiking. Not that he still shouldn't have been ready for it and failing to hold the base did lead directly to the tie-breaking run but, other than that, there wasn't much of a sample size to form a true opinion.

Re: George Wright Revisted

Looked to me that the throw wasn't going to arrive in time anyway, so he came off to put himself in better position for the relay. Do I have that wrong?

Re: George Wright Revisted

The throw WAS there on time. If he hangs the base he gets the force and almost certainly the DP
It looked beforehand that he was yelling for the throw to go directly to 1st and therefore didn't expect it and wasn't set.
