Is there an epidemic of them that I have missed?

I seem to remember that fake glasses were pretty big back in 90-91ish.

You may be getting your wish. I think this is the last year for CSI Miami.

Mainly I'm talking about NBA post-game media sessions where nerdy-looking glasses without any glass in them seem to be the current rage.
Seems to be some crossover to Hollywood types as well.

I'm guessing they think it makes them look smarter.
No, it makes you look needier.

Ah, yes. The "blipster."

IIRC, this was more like the early-to-mid-'90s. Like, right around "Reality Bites" and Nirvana, just prior to the advent of Weezer and the very beginnings of "emo."

You know what I've had enough of? Those stupid car decals that have Calvin (of Calvin and Hobbes) peeing on something that the driver doesn't like.

And THIS is the difference between north Jersey and south Jersey/the Shore.

I always associate those with The South, as in far more southerly than south Jersey.

Oh, I don't mean that that sort of thing is exclusive to Down-the-Shore-Country-- only that it's particular to the trashier locals' car decor there (as compared to the hipster-y/trend-chasing north, he generalizes mightily).

Re: Enough with the fake glasses already, OK?

I prefer those to the "Don't let my car fool you, my treasure is in heaven" bumper stickers, particularly as affixed to gold-emblem'd Lexus'. Lexi?

Three-letter vacation badges. Those cartoon family stick-figures. Baby on Board. "My Child Is An Honor Student at..." "My Child Beat Up Your Honor Student Ha Ha."

Really, ALL bumper stickers suck. At best, you get a chuckle you'll never hear. At worst-- and far more often-- you invite morons to damage your car because you have the wrong candidate/school/sporting franchise displayed.

The black hipster thing, though? Kind of fascinating. And I gotta say-- the whole slightly-arch dress-up game that some hipsters-- black or otherwise-- have been playing for the last half-decade or so has been fun and a lot less aesthetically-painful than previous trendoid things from the last quarter-century (grunge, baggy pants-and-wallet-chains, skinny-AND-below-buttline jeans, e.g.).

My brother in law gave us a Zombie themed one recently that we have yet to put on the car.

The only thing that should be on a bumper sticker is the sunset and seagull of the 1970s WLIR logo.

I hope not. Have you ever tried to fit a brain into a bottle? I guess you'd have to puree it first right?

Re: Enough with the fake glasses already, OK?

I feel like Baron Davis is the Godfather of the modern NBA blipster movement, but he's since been eclipsed by more up-and-coming blipsters who probably (not coincidentally) have more relevant careers, too.

Baron: He's the one wearing the... nevermind.

Other notables go glasses sometimes (LeBron and Wade in Miami), but OKC goes full-court press with it, and have to be considered the Kings of NBA Alt. Harden has his zany mohawk and beard, Durant loves to wear dumb little backpacks to pressers, and Russell Westbrook is the unparalleled MVP of neo, Steve Urkell-wave fashion.

Re: Enough with the fake glasses already, OK?

I would like to come out in support of athletes and celebrities, with more money than brains, spending their cash on glasses that they don't actually need. The more the merrier, I say. Now, if only the fad would catch on with the general masses.*

*I am more accustomed to dealing with people that can't count the fingers on my hand at a distance of 5 feet arguing that they really don't need glasses, because they see "good enough to drive".
