Seventh inning:

  • McBride grounds to Harrelson.

  • Schmidt, despite getting nothing to hidt, drives one to deep center, which Agee runs down.

  • Luzinski ripped a hard foul on the first pitchski, and then Seaver began pitching around him as well, and struck him out on a 2-2 pitch.

Eightn inning:

  • Luis Aguayo grounds out to Weis on a 1-0 pitch. Seaver has five outs to get and he's 91 pitches into his evening.

  • Two pitches later, Gary Maddox grounds hard to the late Donn Clendenon, who takes it unassisted.

  • Lary Bowa falls behind 0-2, and I have Seaver pitching around him, but he drives a clean single into the outfield.
History will have to wait for another day.

A ninth-inning error by Harrelson costs Seaver the shutout.

Oh, well. Too many walks and deep counts for him to deserve the glory of a no-hitter in this one.

I wonder if it's possible that Diamond Mind won't allow a no hitter by a
Mets pitcher - or if it's really because it's just hard to throw one.

I've been staring at the icon for the past week or two but haven't fired it
up yet. I didn't get nearly caught up in it as I thought I would last year.

It's a rather plain game. They take pride in the database firing on all cylanders, but the action is practically non-existent (although the game call can be fun), the layout all right, and the useability iffy.

whats the game?

Ive played every baseball vid or sim I can get my hands on.

My brothers and I played GIL HODGES PENNENT FEVER way,waaaaaay back (a dice baseball game) and then got into ALL-STAR BASEBALL(a game with disc cards and a spinner). Played whole seasons and kept scorebooks. Yep, we were that strange.

But todays vid & PC games, like EA MVP Baseball-2005, are just phenominal.
Of all the sports baseball has had the toughest time making the transition to video games. The game has so many nuances.

"Baseball Mogul" is a fun game, they come out with a new edition every now and then.
theres next to no "graphics" just economic and talent management of a baseball team. you can simulate games 1 by 1 (and watch the play by play, see the box score) or simulate the season at once.
additionally you can create a league and have it run the SAME season X number of times shhowing you each team's average finish as well as how many times they won division/playoff round/ws/etc

I used the simulator on the 2005 season countless times, keeping the rosters updated, and nearly every time the NL East was entirely above .500, so that ended up not surprising me when it happened.

Both games sound kool.
Are they free deals or u buy em?

I like baseball games even from a non graphic statistic or business standpoint.

In this EA MVP BB, I own the Mets, I built a new Stadium (Seaver Stadium-you have to make $$$ to upgrade it as you go), you control and manage salaries and contract negotiations (player & staff), concessions,ballpark merchandise store, ticket prices, promotions, A,AA,& AA teams (as well as the MLB team),call-ups/send downs, trades, and a slew more of things.

Players improve or decline in thier abilities as seasons pass, based on many factors, mostly age and performance.

And you can sim a season or any part of it, 'manage' a game (where you get a quick play by play boxscore which happens before your eyes with a stat-tracker [fantasy baseball] type layout), or you can play the game out in stunningly detailed 3-d rendered graphics, with eveything from stealing homers in the field to breaking your bat at the plate.

And you can create your own player (but be careful-the more talented you make him the more you will have to pay for his services).

Ive been playing right field for the Mets for 5 years now.;)

It also has old Hall of Fame players (just about everyone cept Rose) and old ballparks (from fenway before the green monster was built to the polo grounds to the Astrodome to the Vet to.......lots a old stadiums that are gonzo) that you can unlock and use as you play.
I like the appeal of using the old teams on your game Edge.

I'm not so much into the historical aspect; I like to take a team and run with it -- make trades, sign free agents, stuff like that. [url=http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/ootp/]Out Of The Park[/url] has a crazy detailed stat engine and a pretty complex financial/roster system, combined with good managerial gameplay. It's not graphically based; you can't play pitch by pitch and manually move the fielders around, but you make all the managerial decisions. It's the closest I've found to Front Page Sports: Baseball, which I LOVED until Sierra stopped supporting it.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes creating himself; I created myself as a second baseman, but Matsui has actually been really good, so I slid myself over to first. (David Wright has started the 2007 season .208/.258/.376 through 149 AB. Ugly.)

..I started as a second baseman myself. Traded Matsui season one(2005) cuz i had to get myself in somewhere and I figured that was the weakest link. Cameron had a good year in right (30 hr 90+ RBI) but I had to move him for salary reasons in 2007. I moved to rightfield.

The salary thing got a little screwy the first off-season. I set up a salary cap, just to see what would happen. The game offers you a 30-day signing period; each day, you can make whatever offers you want to make, then you process each day individually and guys make their choices. Apparently, everybody was selling tickets, because the following deals got signed:

Barry Zito - LA - 7 years, $30 million per
Jason Marquis - TEX - 4 years, $21 million per
Alfonso Soriano - SF - 3 years, $17 million per
Toby Hall - CHW - 3 years, $15 million per
Kyle Farnsworth - MIN - 4 years, $13 million per

Things got better last offseason, but Fake Me is eligible for free agency after this season, and apparently, I lowballed myself, because I'm refusing to sign an extension. So I'm going to have to wait and see how things play out this winter.

I hear ya.
Its funny how it is a lesson in whats involved in running a team in many ways. As well as a fantasy dream kinda baseball team.

In my off season (2005/2006) my prize aquisitions were J.Santana (P) and Eric Gagne(RP). Gagne came in part with a deal for Piazza, who went back to L.A.
Santana was great, Gagne was not so great. Traded Gagne pretty quick and Santana when his contract came up. He wanted too much $$$.

The off season is as much fun as the season, cuz like in your game, you field offers and players consider them. (Im not to good at that cuz I like the team I have, and lowball the market- but you have to consider your minor league teams and shoring them up) There are also mini spring training games for pitchers and batters(novelty practice excersizes-like for batters the game says pull a fly ball or hit a grounder up the middle, and you have to execute that for attribute points) where you can work on improving individual players attributes.

I had some very productive years and I ended up commanding more than Beltran makes when my contract came up. I was NL MVP in 2008, and only being 25 years old at the time (in my 4th MLB yr) I asked for 21 mill for three yrs. I ended up giving myself 20 mill for 7 yrs, to lock that salary in. Won another MVP award,made the NL AllStar team every year since.

I had to pay me.:0

But I may have to move even me someday. :(

Traded Floyd two seasons ago and hes been injured alot playing elsewhere. On ther DL twice this last season.

Ive been tempted to move Beltran every year, just cuz of his salary, but I have refrained.
Beltran has done very, very good, especially the last 2 years.
His contract comes up next year, and I already have a centerfielder on the bench (I created a friend of mine and brought him up thru the minors) and a minor league CF (A.I. created) waiting in the wings, and odds are I will move Beltran to free up salary. My created buddy should be able to post similar numbers (I hope) and he's signed at 2.5 mill (based on his minor league yrs and attributes) for 5 yrs. Thats frees up moocho dinero and I hope to be able to buy the last two seating upgrades, going from a two tier 42,500 ballpark to a full blown four tier 65,000 plus stadium.
I need 70 million for the last two seating upgrades(30 mil & 40 mil each).

Seaver Stadium is lookin shweet.

The only players left from my starting roster in 2005 are Beltran, Martinez (this is his last yr cuz his stamina has dropped from 98 to 73 last 3 yrs), Reyes and Wright. Reyes and Wright have been solid, making the starting NL AllStar team almost every year(You can play that game too).

i got tired of baseball mogul awhile ago and am looking for something else, the most important things to me are:
1. realistic stats engine- i don't want guys hitting 90 homers or striking out 400 batters, i don't want teams winning 130 games.
2. realistic financial options, at least on the game's higher difficulty levels- i don't want to have a 500million payroll and be operating in the black and winning every year
3. difficulty- if i'm winning too often the game is no fun

i don't care at all about graphics, lots of extra stats and charts and tables and stuff are cool...
which game is for me?

I haven't tried more than Diamond Mind. I can say that DM wants to be the game you're looking for.

Sham came up with a runner on first and one out in the seventh. St. Louis had closed the gap to 5-3 and they pulled Gibson for lefty Hal Woodschick. On another day, I might have countered by pinch-hitting Rocky Swoboda. Today, I didn't have the heart.

What do you know, but Woodschick hits Sham with his first pitch. It might have been payback, as Seaver had hit two men --- including Gibson --- in the two previous innings. Sham didn't take it kindly and took a few steps toward the mound. Tim McCarver headed him off and he went down to first without further incident.

Not quite as cool as a no-hitter, of course, but a lot of fun.

They've had a lot of injuries and the season is about two weeks old. They're 7-5 without Cleon Jones.

They're a fun team to play. They have one borderline outstanding hitter in Jones, one very good hitter in Agee, and one hitter who is very good if you spot him correctly in Clendenon. Most of the rest are a bunch of guys who are more or less OK if you spot them. And putting the right guys in the right spots is what managing is about, innit?

So, just finished my EA MVP baseball season and Beltrans contract came up.
He had just come off a 43HR/124RBI season.
He asked for 4 years at 12 million a year.
I gave it to him.
His old contract was grandfathered in, because it was his actual deal with the Mets at 17 million a year. So Im saving 5 million bucks.

Im in spring training, and I guess Im leaning towards keeping him now.
Still could trade him, but he has been solid.
Ill have to see how my budget looks a week before seasons start.

Electronic Arts made a template available for download so you could make your own custom game cover. I made this, printed it out on glossy stock, and slipped it into the jacket on the game box. Looks like a store bought deal.
