mlb.com is doing a fan vote for play of the year. [url]http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/awards/y2005/tyib/index.jsp[/url] (click the "play" tab to watch) Wright prolly deserves it of the all the candidates; tho Jack Wilson's play and Ichiro are also pretty awesome too.

Yup. Looks like they limited nominees to 1 per team.

Looking at all of those plays on the Mets site, the coolest thing is still Marlon Anderson blowing a bubble at second while going for his inside-the-park homer...

Ichiro's catch is something else. Mounting the wall with one foot, then two, then pushing off with both arms, then realizing he's in an awkward position, then adjusting himself around to make the catch. The big leagues are filled with great athletes making great efforts to do great things (like Wright). It's the guys who have the presence of mind to make the adjustments in the middle of the great efforts that really blow my mind. Jack Wilson's play would make Rey Ordoņez proud.

Actually, if you look at the Bloopers of the Year, the Mets have 2 of the 10 nominees: Pedro getting soaked by the sprinklers and Koo striking out on three pitches without ever lifting the bat off his shoulder.

Ichiro's play reminded me of Ozzie Smith's catch where he reached out with his barehand when the ball took a funny bounce. Ichiro climbed the wall, realized the ball was coming at an odd angle, and adjusted. Simply amazing. Edgy is absolutely right, it's one thing to dive into the stands...it's another thing to adjust in the middle of what already would have been a spectacular play.

I don't think it was even his best play of the year, but congratulations. Hopefully the confidence boost will get him past any recurrance of the yips that plagued him early last season.
