In his last three AB's, Bay's lofted lazy fly ball outs, each one about 30 feet short of the warning track. This is about as good as you can hope for with Bay: that if he keeps this up, at least he won't be grounding into DP's with a man on and less than two outs.

I don't miss Pagan but Sandy appears to have received nothing of value for him. I know that Torres is a nice guy but Nieuwenhuis is the better player and Ramirez was awful.

Buck was questioning the wisdom of hitting for Hairston with Valdespin. That's how he set up the whole mini-rant. Valdespin is a good-- and that's generous, I think-- see-ball-hit-ball hitter. He's a pretty terrible hitter in terms of approach/situational awareness. That Papelbon luckshot will have Terry reaching for Valdespin's lever in close-and-late situations FAR more than he oughta.
