If I made it to the majors my batting strategy would be similar to Quintanilla . Just try to foul everything off and hope to eventually put it in play.

Wright wasn't to thrilled about that called 3rd strike. He lowers his head and says something to the ump as he starts to walk away. Just a few words, and kept it from being seen by the fans in the stands as his head was facing down. If you have something to say about a bad call on a pitch Ike, that's the way you do it.

Ugh, Wright lines out and I think the absolute last thing a Mets fan wants to see right now is Dickey sliding back into third leading with his right hand there...oy. Oh, and grand slam ike davis!

A Really Afficient 2 hours 7 minute game on your clock. Or, if you're like me and were busy for the first 45 minutes so were watching via DVR until you caught up, that game took just slightly over an hour and a half.

The SNY broadcast says Dave Steib did it in his time with the Blue Jays (1988?). Hadn't been done in the NL since the 1940s.

Other 'Thoughts on the Game' - Prior to the no-hitter being broken up, none of the NYM outfielders had touched the ball defensively, nor had Wright. All the outs to that point where either Ks involving just Dickey & Thole, plus a bunch grounders to Quintanilla to Ike and one from Valdespin to Ike. The rest of those dudes could have taken the first half of the game off. - Dickey getting back to 3B on Wright's liner kept the inning alive long enough for Ike. Should have frozen instantly of course and not made it nearly as close, but it's not like he spends a lot of time on the bases for practice. - And speaking of Ike, a couple of nice things tonight. You start with the Grand Slam obviously. But what I really liked about it was that may have been the first HR from him this season that reminds me of the ones he hit during his first year+ here: the kind where it doesn't look like he got it all until it finally comes down 400 feet later. His HRs this season have mostly been pulled balls where you knew they were instantly gone. Nothing wrong with those really, except that they're more likely to be the the result of simply guessing correctly and getting the cripple pitch. They still count but they don't give you the idea that he's seeing the ball or thinking through things really well. And then there was the line-out to LF in his previous AB. Haven't seen him hit many hard to the opposite field this year. As long as we can ignore the strike-out where he went fishing for the plate-high curve I'm almost tempted to say that he's on the way back.

Thoughts from the game? The crowd was into it. Slowly at first, but building, and always more into the top of the inning than the bottom. In a weird way, Johan Santana's no-hitter is being overshadowed. (He might have something to say about that tomorrow) Watched Dickey from section 138, which is two over the apple. lots of fun. You could certain tell they were getting a lot of silly swings. Really Awesome. (That's what the Mets put on the board at the end) Davis' grand slam came almost right at us, and as such was hard to judge off the bat. (Also, we saw an employee run down an inning later to the Party City deck with a bat and return with a ball. I suspect Ike wanted his first career grand slam) His line out to left field got there reallll fast. I was enjoying watching Dickey's ERA slowly approach 2.00 on the scoreboard. I also was enjoying the (At least two) separate K corners. or dicKKKKKKKKKKKKKey corners anyway. This team has a Cy Young, MVP, and Rookie of the Year candidate approaching the halfway mark. That's pretty cool. First shake shack of the year. We got there, through the line, two beers at Big Apple Brews and in our seat just in time for the game to start. The game ended so fast that even waiting for Dickey to be interviewed and then leaving through traffic and we were home to Jersey by 10:30. I'd forgotten about Brian Roberts crazy no-rbi streak until my wife noted that he only had 4 and asked if he sucked. Curtain call for Ike was nice.

I think it was Duda who actually cut it off. I was thinking as it was developing that for Reyes or another similar runner that's maybe a double even though it never got near the wall.

Looked like it might be able to get past him, but died on the grass. probably had some back spin, although Duda did cover the ground fairly well.

unrelated to Dickey, is Adam Jones just a punk or what? His first AB in particular, I noticed he was taking a ridiculous amount of time between pitches and stepping out and walking away and around. Then he grounded one just foul, and started running down the line well after the foul call he continued to slow and then step on first and then turn around and walk, slowly, back to the plate for the next pitch.
