I would love to see a manager announce righty starter and go to the pen after the opposing number stacked his lineup with lefties.

I see it as a solid strategic maneuver. Sacrifice a righty for a lefty in the seventh, get a strategic advantage in a big spot. Sacrifice a righty for a lefty in the first, get strategic advantage all night.

Instead of a closer for the 9th inning, how bout a 1-inning starter for the 1st... Either Rauch or Byrdak depending on the handedness of their first 3 batters and then WHAM 2nd inning in comes the unanounced starter... Is it Santana on normal rest? Is it Dickey on 3 days? Is it Gee on an extra day? You won't know until the game starts!

I'm watching on the Orioles station. Chris Davis said that he was "really surprised" at how nice Citi Field is which was "surprising" because it's close to Yankee Stadium and he finds this "ironic." Thorne did not ask how the two differ or what exactly is "ironic." Ex-Met Mike Bordick is doing color tonight on MASN. He told us that "Newenhouse" is in center.

of course it would only take a couple of times through for them to realize what you're doing and know who in the rotation is 'supposed' to pitch. Otherwise you could always keep it vague and 'schedule' one of the starters that's on his throw day for every game. So like tomorrow, set Chris Young as the probable starter, have him do one batter and then go to Gee.

OK Terry, so Parnell got the first three of those nine outs with minimal fuss and muss. So how 'bout leaving him in to pitch the 8th too rather than taking a chance with an unknown? (assuming he isn't PH'd for)

Wow...the Orioles (like the Rays) are not impressing me. I know that the AL East is whipping the NL East's ass this season, but from the Mets point of view...I'm not sure how.

I would like to think they'd have stuck with Parnell if that hadn't been such a good pinch-hitting spot* *though they could have double-switched when Parnell came in. Kudos to Terry though on getting Santana out of there... I generally want to stick with a starter pitching well, but with his surgery and the no-hitter pitch count it was time to yank him. Plus the bullpen always needs some work the day after Dickey! Oh and that's something I had not given Terry credit for but just thought of: in re-arranging the rotation after Santana's no-hitter to put Dickey a day or two before him, Terry has ensured a rested bullpen for the guy most likely to need (in terms of needing rest, not needing to bailed out early due to ineffectiveness)

That's two Baltimore vs NY games that totaled right around 4-1/2 hours ... a fact which has Orioles fans thinking; that's usually ONE game when we play that other New York team
