Lefty starter for Baltimore so we'll see if Terry plays "opposite day" from the lineup of Tuesday. He's already said that Turner will start at short. Perhaps: Rottino, Murphy, Turner, Wright, Hairston, Torres, Duda, Nickeas.

That's about as close to an all RH hitting line-up as this crew can come. Matusz was a top prospect at one point and certainly isn't past his sell-by date in that category. Just slower than expected in getting there which is common with pitchers, but he's certainly capable of throwing a good one on occasion.

I do like the way Terry is going totally batshit with the righties though. It's sort of daring them to come in and use a righty reliever at some point which could set up all sorts of fun. Don't forget these guys don't know how to do a double-switch.

Yeah, Terry having nobody save Wright left who's under a longterm contract really gives him leave to do what he wants with the lineup pretty much on a nightly basis.

I remember Hardy as a good defensive player when he had those couple good years with Milwaukee - and he seems to still be. Not flashy, but fundamentally sound and can make all the plays. Betemit, on the other hand, was a hot-shot SS prospect around the same time Reyes was. Betemit was often ranked as high or higher because scouts liked his power better. But Reyes had him in speed obviously as well as the greater likelihood of staying and thriving at SS. In the long run, not only did Betemit not turn into the hitter some thought but clearly is barely a competent corner infielder much less a SS.

Betemit's a really useful utility-infielder-with-pop guy, though. He's on his seventh team and will likely hit four or five more before he's done. He often starts a season on the bench but ends up playing every day for half of it, as soon as they figure out where they need him. A lot of one-year deals ahead for him.

I'm gonna channel Warner Wolf and suggest a rule change: when there's two outs and a runner on 1st, if there's a ground-rule double the runner from 1st scores. He's running on the pitch so the team in the field shouldn't benefit because the ball goes over the fence (or the line at Citi Field).

I consider five or more runs to be out of bullpen blowup range. Seven or more to get beyond nail-biting territory. If we get to the 9th inning you can knock those totals down by one each.

The batter was still in the box but the ball was in fair territory when it connected with the bat - I believe that's what determines foul vs out.

Looked it up and learned Mets had the exact same record, 38-32, after 70 games in their other "Surprise!" seasons, 1984 and 1997. So maybe this ride doesn't meander into a canyon come late July or early August the way the promising 2010 and 2011 versions did. Maybe?
