IGT 76, 6/27/12, Mets @ Cubs

Ceetar

Jeff Samardzija versus Jon Niese.

Sammy was having a good season, but is 0-3 with a +10 ERA over his last three starts.

Gary and Ron have predicted "one of those games" at Wrigley with the wind blowing out today

Re: IGT 76, 5/27/12, Mets @ Cubs

Doodoo was called to the principal's office after the game, Snooze says.

"He's been taught to run until he's told to stop," Cotton says.

Overall, I think Doodoo's laid-back approach probably helps his game more than hurts it, but this guy has to start acting a little bit more like a Big League Cleanup Hitter should.

Re: IGT 76, 5/27/12, Mets @ Cubs

The Mets need this one BADLY after losing two straight to the worst team in the league. This series is reminding me of the trip to Houston.

I was hoping for a 5-2 road trip. That's still barely possible, but not likely now...especially if the team from the past two nights keeps showing up.

Andres Torres: "We must save the republic."

Ruben Tejada: "Is the situation that grave?"

David Wright: "We have lost four in a row. We haven't much time."

Lucas Duda: "Aren't there like 90 more games?"

Ike Davis: "Urgency! Urgency!"

Scott Hairston: "The kid whose valley fever manifests itself in umpire-touching is right. Our journey to make things right begins now."

Daniel Murphy: "I'm confused. I thought it was just a game."

Josh Thole: "The mission has changed. Our dignity is on the line. Plus we're like four back of the stupid Nationals."

Jonathon Niese: "Where's that ball? I must throw it past small, annoying bearlike creatures at once."

Mets up 1-0.

Cubs had first and third with one out in the bottom of the inning, but now it's two outs after Niese picks off Castro.

(Which is more than I can say for the CIA!)

OE: Three outs. Nice.

Three bad base-running plays* by Starling in one inning. That's impressive.
Between that and the [u:2b0cj1rr]Seven[/u:2b0cj1rr] walks he had coming into this series (we've somehow walked him twice) is part of what makes him so frustrating to Cubs fans despite his awesome raw talent. It's too early to make any real comparisons, but he almost has a bit of Shawon Dunston ring to it maybe.

Pretty cool. The computer generated scout at GameDay just reported:

That pitch number 45 for Jeff Samarzadja. His effectiveness may start slipping. He has held opponents to a .232 batting averages in his first 45 pitches, but has yielded a .309 average thereafter.

4th team in history to have four players each with four or more RBIs in the same game -- or so says some crawl across the bottom of a screen.

A quirky and totally meaningless stat to be sure, but shirley an oddity to score 17 runs and have all of them driven in by just four players.

Also, yesterday was a day for a lot of big scores - double digits all over the place.
NYM offense still wins the prize but in addition to the game at Wrigley there was:

* LAA 13 - Balt 1
* Boston 10 - Jays 4
* ChiSox 12 - Twins 5
* Tex 13 - Det 9
* Nats 11 - Rox 5
* Pitt 11 - Phils 7

OK so there was was the Astros beating the Pads 1-0 plus the Giants tossing a bagel at the Dodgers for the 3rd straight game but, you know how it is out on the left coast, always have to be the contrarians.

I took my son to the Red Sox game yesterday. When we got home and I told my wife the score was 10-4, I rolled my eyes and added "American League baseball." Then I checked the score on the Mets game. She laughed at me when I told her how many runs the Mets scored.
