OotSB, 6/28 (and the weekend to follow)

Pirates up, 5-0, six batters into game.

Over the Phils.

The Bucminsters might actually be a player in the second half. The Phils, though, whoo. Brutal. That's Shmile Shmendrick on the mound for them.

You didn't think AJ Burnett would let this success sit idle, did you? Phils catcher Erik Kratz, who has a 2.000 OPS and a face like a skin tag on Jim Thome's armpit, tattoos a 2-run homer. 5-2 Bucs.

Just one day after they handed a start to Raul Valdes [2 IP, 3 ER, 2 H, 2 BB and got hung with the loss]

On the other hand, Chase Utley made his return last night with a HR in his season's first AB and a 3/5 overall.

Re: OotSB, 6/28

Kendrick still in there chucking. Certainly has settled down since his 5-run/4-hit/2-HR/1-BB opening six batters.
Still 5-2 Buccos heading for bottom six

Re: OotSB, 6/28

Phils have closed to 5-4 but just left two on in bottom 8 (Thome = K, Ruiz = Foul Out, both PH-ing)

And the Rockies also jumped out to a 5-0 lead over an NL East team as they sent 10 to the plate in the 1st against Edwin Jackson and the Nats

Phils lose 5-4. Washington put up a 5 spot in the 3rd but still trail 7-5.

10-10 in the 9th as Harper Homers in top 9 to tie it.

He just might be as good as he thinks he is.

Yanx lose to the Chicago Venturas on a 3R HR in the 9th off Robertson. LFer Dayan Viciedo was the hero.
Alas, Jeter's drive to the RF wall with a man on in the bottom of the inning wasn't quite far enough even for the walls in YSIII - even if Michael Kaye did briefly wet his pants during the call.

Braves also lose on a 9th inning HR. That other Chris Young for Arizona took Kimbrel deep.

So with Miami having the day off, a win tonight nets us 1/2 game or a game against everyone in the east.

Tonight: Yankees score 4 in the bottom 1 but Sox get it back against major league debuter Warren. Warren seems very Schwinden like actually.

6-4 white sox, top 3, no outs. Yankees have Phelps warming, who they clearly would prefer to start if they can stretch him out.

Re: OotSB, 6/28

This weekend provides us with the mixed blessing of a guaranteed two wins and two losses from the other NL East teams.

* Phils are in Miami for the weekend -- Marlins lead 1-0 early as Cliff Lee searches for his first win. Johnson going for the fish

* and the Nationals escape the heat of DC (or maybe not) by visiting Georgia . Scoreless after 1 so far; Detwiler & Delgado

the Phillies Marlins one is interesting. initial thought is root for the Fish because the Phillies have better players looming that could get them 'good' again so the further buried they are, the better. Plus the Marlins have one or so players I sorta really like, the Phillies have none.

the other one is interesting though. Puts a lot of pressure onthe Mets to win. if the Mets win 2/3 this weekend and the Braves do, they gain ground on the Nats while staying ahead of the Braves. Keeping them from getting away seems important. Mets play the NL East a lot in July post-All-Star to make their case too.

Checking into the Nats-Braves game. The Washington announcers are about five seconds from actually fellating Bryce Harper on the air.

Yankees have allowed ten runs in seven innings, with call-up Adam Warren getting roughed up to the tune of a 23.14 ERA. The Schwinden watch has begun.

Yankees lose 14-7. Outfielder Dewayne Wise came in to get the last two outs. After the game the Yankees called up Ryota Igarashi, Chris Schwinden, Tobi Stoner, Lance Broadway and Brandon Knight.

Re: OotSB, 6/28

I was stuck in Holland Tunnel traffic for about the first 6 innings of that MFY game. Walden threw a scoreless first and Quintana for the Sox was roughed up for 4 in his half, and John & Suzyn were practically fucking each other in the booth talking about great Walden was and what an overrated piece of shit Qunitana is ("I'm gonna se what teams he shut out, oh, just the Dodgers and Brewers...") Quintana was released by the MFY minor leagues last year btw. Their tune changed when it came time to heap praise on Walden's reliever until the point he started getting hammered. Great night.

The Yankees pitchers - well, their actual pitchers - threw 203 pitches tonight.

No reason they should give Harper different treatment than they give to the rest of his Nats' teammates.

Re: OotSB, 6/28 (and the weekend to follow)

Braves evened up the series with Washington by beating Strasberg. Atlanta got to Strasberg with 3 in the 3rd and the Nats pulled him - maybe because of the heat.

Marlins beat the Phils and Hamels 3-2
