OOTS: Weekend Thread

Lots of stuff going on. The Red Sox try to climb back into that division by promptly giving up 4 runs to those stupid people from the Bronx. no score Phillies/Braves in which I guess we want Phillies to win 2/3? or sweep? Rockies up 1-0 on Nats.

6-6 end of two. The feed on MLBN has attached a small 'Time of Game' clock onto the score box. It clicked over 1:00 just before Adrian Gonzalez made the final out of the 2nd inning.

Drew Pomeranz tossing a 1-hitter v Washington thru 5 Rox lead 3-0 against Strasburg but had a chance to run his ass out of the game but GiDP'd w/bases loaded in top 5. That's the same thing the Giants kept doing the other day and eventually paid for it. Strasburg up over 100 pitches already so may be done. Phils & Braves scoreless in the 8th

I would have preferred the Phils win this one. Rockies trying their hardest to blow their previous 5-0 lead in Washington. Still 5-1 bottom 9 but Nats have 2-on w/none-out.

Nats go quietly after that and lose 5-1 - so at least we can't lose any ground to 1st place today. 10-8 Yanx, Sox batting in bottom 7

Boston fans can bitch about Bobby all they want (I don't actually know if they still are) but when their starting pitchers give up 5, 4, & 3 runs in the 1st inning to the Yanx in the first three games of their series, what's he supposed to do about it? Then tack on the fact that I don't even recognize the names of half their starting players and it doesn't say much for them on the offensive side of things either.

Problem is that Boston is virtually unrecognizable these days (they had five guys playing today with numbers over 50) with Pedroia, Crawford, Matsuzaka, Ellsbury (and who the hell knows who else) injured, Youkilis gone, Varitek gone, etc. Tampa's offense was questionable even before Longoria went out. Toronto has about four different starting pitchers injured. And Baltimore is, well, Baltimore. Meanwhile half the senior citizens in the Bronx are playing like they're 25 (three HRs for Andruw today). The Sox did come back to win the 2nd game today and has a chance at a split tomorrow but that may not be enough.

Jason Pridie, playing for the disgruntled Shane "Cryin' Hawaiian" Victorino, hits a two-run homer, but Dan Uggla does the same to tie it. Andrelton Simmons just grounded a single up the middle. Pridie strolled after it, straightened up, and casually tossed the ball in; all the while Simmons never stopped and took second. No run scored, but it did clear the pitcher when they walked the eighth-place hitter intentionally. Looked really bad.

Rox get two in the 8th to tie things at 3 in Washington. Braves lead the Phalling Phils 4-3 in the 7th

Davey's boys pull off a double steal w/2 outs in the 9th ... but fall short anyway. Rox scored their final two runs - 1 in the 8th + 1 more in the 9th - on wild pitches to win 4-3 Nice of the Nats to lose 2-of-3 to chumpy Rox while we were losing 2-of-3 to chumpy Cubs Braves were the big NL East winners this weekend. Runs given up by BoSox pitchers in the 1st inning during this series: Game 1 = 5 Game 2 = 4 Game 3 = 3 Game 4 = 2 So I guess if you're a Sox fan and you want to look on the bright side you call that improvement. The 2nd of the 2 runs tonight came in when a potential 5-5-3 DP throw from 3rd base somehow didn't reach the pitchers mound. Luckily for the Sox Jeter returned the favor in bottom one by pulling a Castillo - dropped a 2-out pop up. 2-1 end of one. Only 40 minutes or so for the first inning. I think that's ahead of their usual pace.
