Kte: baby bears aka the cubbies

I used to love cubbies...back in kindergarten. I'd store my jacket in there. my bookbag too....... and this joke is falling flat, so, lets just get into it, why don't we...

they currently dwell in the bottom of the NL central, no check that. they currently dwell in the bottom of the NL... no, wait.... here we go.. They currently dwell in the bottom of the whole league at 24-48. Coming off of getting swept by the dbax, they are truly a rebuilding club, Theo left his cushy confines of the green monster, and came to build a club from the ground up... what do they have now?

C: Geovany Soto, a career 252 hitter, is no longer the promising young catcher. currently sporting a 170 average, 5 hr's, he did recently come off the dl, and has hit 333 in 12 AB's since, with 2 hrs.

1B: Brian LaHair...mr minor leaguer who came on the scene this year with a 286 average, and 13 home runs. he's hit a slight mini-slump coming into this series, going 3-17 in the last 7 games. there's talk of a Rizzo coming up, so more on him later

2B: Darwin, "the purple dino" Barney. a servicable 2bman, who seems to get a few timely hits here and there, flashes a decent glove, shows a little speed, but has been on a mini-slump as of late. 269/3/22.

SS: Starlin Castro. with a name like that, you'd think he's a premadonna dictator. easily the bright "star" of their future, 22 year old ss sports a 300/6/38 with 16 sb. he started off the year batting 3rd, but has now settled into the 2 hole, and no, that's not the hole where your #2 comes out of. The biggest knock on him though is that his mind is elsewhere. recently, he made a baserunning mistake, losing track of the ball, and then a couple days later, with the bases loaded, he had a possible double play ball. he stepped on second, and thought that the inning was over. instead it was 2 outs, and a run scored. talented, but..well, still young i suppose.

3b: Luis Valbuena: while ian stewart is on the dl, this schmo has filled in , batting 1-14 over the last few games. we could see a little joe mather in here as well, if valbuena continues his torrid hitting.

LF: Alfonso Soriano. while overpaid, he has continued to show power, with 14 hr's & 44 rbi's. his speed is mostly gone now, but still, one of two hitters that could may be feared.

CF/RF: Tony Campana: a speedy little guy, who in his short 51 games played, has 24 sb's. he has sat to Reed Johnson when a lefty is up who can hit a bit better, but has no speed compared to Campana. and then there's David Dejesus who's seems to get more playing time to show that he can't hit that well. but all this may be for naught because.....

Anthony Rizzo: with talk about Rizzo coming up either tonight or tomorrow night, LeHair would be pushed to RF, and those three would share even less playing time. he was originally from the redsox organization, traded to the pad's for Adrian gonzalez, and then, traded to the cubs for Cashner, and a few other prospects. This year in AAA he's been hitting close to 350, with 23 hr's in 69 games. It'll be interesting to see him play, though, unfortunately he'll be making his debut against us.

Pitching matchups.

Santana vs Travis Wood(1-3) coming off his first win of the season, he faces our ace. he has a 4+ era, and a record showing his mediocre-ness.
Gee vs Wells(1-2) he took over Dempster's spot in the rotation, and lasted 3.2 innings, giving up 3 earned runs. we'll most likely see a few relievers in this game, so, it would be nice to get to the pen early today to tire them out for the second game as well. Niese vs Samardzija(5-6) perhaps a bright spot in stuff, his results have yet to really produce. he's made the transition this year from the pen to the rotation, and it seems that he tires early (80 pitch mark), so again, perhaps some bullpen use here. in the past four games, the longest he went was 5.1 innings, and he's had a pretty bad streak of starts.

the pen: perhaps rivaling our own pen for one of the worst in the league, they've rotated around closers, with Carlos Marmol only recently regaining the closer position. he currently has a 5.85 era and 4 saves on the year others in the pen are James russell, their lefty, sean camp, casey coleman, and a few other scrubs.

ex mets in cubs: none that I know of. ex cubs in mets: Miguel batista, Rony Cedeno,

Sheesh, one still remembers a time when the Cubs, the Cards and the Bucs were guys that need no introduction. Luis Valbuena? Tony Campana? This KTE stuff is serious business. Stop making guys up.

Re: Kte: baby bears aka the cubbies

If Rizzo has been playing in a league where they allow curve balls, that scares me.
Good KTE.

I'm going to the game tomorrow and can't decide which jersey to wear. Help!

I'd go Ventura. It promotes conversation with enemy fans with minimal confrontation.

It depends on where you're sitting.
I’m not worried about getting hassled from Cubs fans. Will calls most of the fans “Tylers and Trixies,” and notes that more are there to see and be seen, arriving from the bars across the street around the third inning, wandering around the ballpark in search of beer for three innings, then retreating back to the bars.

That pretty well characterizes the fans in the field box and grandstand seats.
But if you're going to sit in the bleachers, the fans there rival (but don't equal) the MFY Bleacher Bums for rabidity. The Ventura one could generate that same reaction as wearing another team's jersey to a (hockey) Rangers game since he now manages the hated corss-town rivals.

Actually I just saw that Wells was promoted by the Padres so I guess this Wells is not Kip.

I'd lean towards Mercury if you're sitting somewhere Gary or Howie can see you from the booth because I think it'd intrigue them.

I just remember being lined up shoulder to shoulder along the piss trough in the Wrigley Field men's room when a "New York Sucks!" chant went up among my fellow urinators. The air, bodies, and toilet water vibrated with the waves of anti-New York rage as I timidly pondered removing the blue & orange cap from my head. I feared I might end up getting a swirly in the trough, but somehow emerged from the restroom (physically) unharmed.

I was sitting along the right field line that day. Oddly enough, the game I watched from the bleachers I ended up sitting in a row full of Mets' fans. Safety in numbers.

Most negative connotations my wife has about baseball revolve around "that day at Wrigley."

Re: Kte: baby bears aka the cubbies

So this Cubs staff contains Wood but it's not Kerry; a Wells but it's neither Kip nor David; a Camp but it's not Rick; a Maine but it's not John; and a Russell but it's not Kurt, Ken, Crowe, Brand, Bertrand, Bill, Leon, or even (and it's too bad because she'd look great in a uniform) Kerri.

No wonder I don't know this team!

And soon a Rizzo that's not Ratso, though after drawing ball four he might well say "I'm walking here."

My buddy has seats in the upper deck, third base side between third base and home. Primo!

I don't know who Tony Campana is, but I hear that he sure can dance, and also, that he's a real nice guy, as long as you assholes don't break his pussy finger.

If you find any email them to me.
And if you find any of her either partially or wholly out of a baseball uniform ...

This looks like the perfect cure for Yankee Chicken Food Poisoning.

That being said, don't screw it up, Mets.

Would you settle for Jordana Spiro? Born and raised in Manhattan and stared in a show called My Boys where she was a Cubs baseball writer.

The Google search didn't turn up a photo of Keri Russell in a uniform but it was still a great search.
