Who was the greatest shorstop in Major League history to ever don a Mets uniform, without achieving all-time Met status. In other words, greatest shortstop in MLB history, who played for the Mets (no matter how well or poorly), not named Reyes.

He also should have a minimum representation of one game there as a Met.

McMillan. A great defensive shortstop when it was primarily considered a defensive position.

Wow... Bud Harrelson doesn't even make the list.

Wouldn't he NOT be a "small-time" Met though?

Where's Dunston?

Re: Small-Time All-Time Shortstop

He qualifies, as Jose is now our All-Timer, and you can certainly vote for him. For most of these, I put the eight leading WAR guys I can find on the ballot. I accidentally included nine. Bud was just out of that money.

Never manned the SS position as a Met. Strictly OF plus one game at 3B

Are guys disqualified if they're Big-Time at other positions.

Otherwise I think the answer is Wright.

Dunston also didn't qualify on WAR.

Ceetar, I don't really think you want to take MFS62's pedant crown, do you? What I'm asking here isn't that nearly complicated.

fine.

How about Melvin Mora.

Re: Small-Time All-Time Shortstop

I guess you do want that crown after all. This isn't that hard, at all.

It really seems obvious, and I wrote as clearly as I could. With sparkling brevity.

Mora only made 12.7% of his MLB appearances at shortstop, so, as we're looking at "greatest shortstop in MLB history" as a primary criterion, he wasn't so included as a selection. Nor was Wright, who has earned .0001% of his value at shortsotp. We included Mora's among the names on the third base ballot, as he garnered the plurality of his career value there.

Now, if you want to vote for Mora, or Dunston, or Harrelson, or Wright, please just click Other, write in the name, and be done with it.

Glad we agree that I'm the best at something.

Tossup between Fregosi (people forget how good he was -- everyone at the time thought the Angels were crazy to give him up for a terrible pitcher and minor leaguers) and McMillan (considered a great defender, but not up to Fregosi at the bat).

Fernandez played a long time, and at the top of his game, he fielded like Ozzie and hit like Templeton.

Only in Canada.

Re: Small-Time All-Time Shortstop

i'm happy to find that jim fregosi is the superior player to tony fernandez, even if only by a handful of career WAR, such is my latent dislike of tony fernandez for his sucky suckness on the mets.

We're gonna have to resist the temptation to completely outsource opinions on defense to the WAR compilers, though, I think.

It's really something when Edgy is arguing that someone else is being too pedantic.
