Carlos Quentin

We should trade for him, and release Bay.

metirish Jun 29 2012 11:08 AM Re: Carlos Quentin |
But Bay is a good guy.......was Q injured this season....only 102 PA so far.

And - as I learned watching 'Beer Money' last night, pre-game - he played in the 1990 Little League World Series.

and Bucket wants to trade him....Christ , guy can't catch a break.

I'd trade Bay for a bag of balls. Just to ensure that Hairston and Newy and eventually Baxter play more. I guess what I'm sayin' is that I'd release Bay.

traded for IIRC because Bobby V went to Boston and checked him out at the "hit dog machine" gym...if that was the name of the place

Ha! Is that true?

metirish Jun 29 2012 11:18 AM Re: Carlos Quentin |
yes it is if memory serves.

batmagadanleadoff Jun 29 2012 11:20 AM Re: Carlos Quentin |
Well if they wanted a better first baseman that off-season, they coulda signed Jason Giambi.

Knee surgery, with Tommy John surgery before that. Right know, he's essentially Uncle Cliffy at the time we got him.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 29 2012 11:30 AM Re: Carlos Quentin |
Quentin's a right-handed hitter, $7 M contract is up after this season and the Pads are going nowhere.

TransMonk Jun 29 2012 11:34 AM Re: Carlos Quentin |
What would you be willing to give up for Carlos?

this is what the Six got for him last off season Traded by the Chicago White Sox to the San Diego Padres for Pedro Hernandez (minors) and Simon Castro (minors). This guy is the piece I guess http://www.baseball-reference.com/minor ... rnan007ped http://www.baseball-reference.com/minor ... stro001sim

So... Carson/Edgin and, say, Erik Goeddel? Or Familia?
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 29 2012 12:40 PM Re: Carlos Quentin |
Den Dekker or Nieuwenhuis, maybe.
|
Benjamin Grimm Jun 29 2012 12:56 PM Re: Carlos Quentin |
He's a bit closer to free agency now than he was last season.
|
metirish Jun 29 2012 01:03 PM Re: Carlos Quentin |
Don't think I want to give up much for a guy coming back from knee surgery, having no clue how serious it was or anything I do know from listening to Fran Healy how important knees are in swinging the bat.
|
DocTee Jun 29 2012 01:08 PM Re: Carlos Quentin |
Den Dekker would be too steep for a free-agent to be, I think. Plus, there'll be bats that could be had for less soon enough....Soriano could come cheap, and apparently the Cubs would pay major freight. Shin-Shoo Choo anyone? (perhaps the Tribe could even send us back Joe Smith, or Matt LaPorta if we sent say, Murphy and Davis). Quentin is intruiging but the injury and potential short-term part of this deal worry me
|
TransMonk Jun 29 2012 01:15 PM Re: Carlos Quentin |
I'd be willing to give up very little...and nothing off the ML roster. If the Mets are buyers, they should be should be looking for additions and not upgrades.

I can see why they called him the "Hot Dog Machine." Wait, what?
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jun 29 2012 02:15 PM Re: Carlos Quentin |
|
Choo's interesting, but would make us even more lefty-heavy. And isn't the "short-term" part of this deal what's appealing about Quentin? He's an affordable rental at the right price for a short-term need, even without any Pod kick-in.
|
Benjamin Grimm Jun 29 2012 02:31 PM Re: Carlos Quentin |
I still don't think the Mets will be serious contenders deep into the season, so I'm not in favor of them trading real prospects for a rental. If we're going to trade youth, I'd rather get a guy like Hunter Pence, who may also be available, and is under control through 2013. But my preferred approach for the remainder of this season would be to try to bolster the bullpen and not deal any blue chips.

LaPorta is an AL-player from what i've heard, his ideal position is DH and i don't think we need more of those guys.
|
Ashie62 Jun 29 2012 04:38 PM Re: Carlos Quentin |
I would take Quentin to make a run this season. I wouldn't give up much and Matt Den Dekker really isn't much, he can be included...

That's exactly what Bay will do when he returns, isn't it?
