bob furniture, or bob clothing? i suppose inherently, i knew that pc richard was still around, as i recall hearing the whistle fairly recently. it's just that i haven't been down rt 46 in wayne in a while, and when i saw hte big ugly angular white retail facade, i was surprised to think they still existed.

(well, we're a mile from 46 now, but whatever) That Bronx baseball team that tries to sell everything plays the whistle every time they strike someone out. Bennigans for me. They sorta 'reopened' or something as technically they did all close. (I drive by an empty one on the way to work) The script/design is a little different but it's basically the same franchise. Didn't know they also owned Steak and Ale, which I never ate at.

You know what's crazier still? That Major Leaguers are still allowed to chew during the games. Think about that, you can't smoke cigarettes at a bar, but a professional athlete can use tobacco while he is working. Crazy.

Makes you wonder about the City of New York ordinance. Smoking and chewing tobacco are already illegal in all New York City parks, beaches, playgrounds, etc. You would think Citi Field (and the other place) should qualify under that ordinance, and if not, it would only require a quick fix to make it happen.

MLB policy --- after much haggling with the union --- is to keep usage as off-camera and out of uniform as possible. See a player dipping in the dugout? See a baserunner with the tell-tale ring in his ass pocket? Tobacco Free Kids wants you to rat him out.

I think they've banned it in the minors where they don't have those pesky union things to worry about. Hopefully that'll keep guys from starting the habit in the first place. Fehr is/was probably making the case that there's no proof of health concerns with chewing therefore it shouldn't be banned. You know, the same case he was making for steroids.

Geocities closed down a couple of years ago. Marty Noble and Steve Popper and Mike Puma and a couple of other of the beat guys still use AOL email addresses.
