I guess nobody's watching the game today. (I'm not either.) I just checked the score online, though. Scoreless, Mets batting in the bottom of the third. So far they've had one single by Murphy.

Several tweets about Valdespin, but not saying what he did. What happened?

Got a couple of hits, but I don't know if that's what the Tweets are talking about. Mattingly comes and gets the starter with 1 out in the 5th even though he still has a lead. Not sure if this is a good thing or not. We weren't exactly hitting him (most hits were soft) and K-ing a lot, but he was also up around 100 pitches already and so in comes the lefty to face Ike & Muffy with men on.

Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 12:58 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
And neither of them come through and we leave two runners on for the 2nd inning in a row.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 01:12 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Wow -- Nieuwenhuis got a hit! And off a LHP too!
DocTee Jul 22 2012 02:10 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
I'm a-feared they are coming back to normal. They are what they are-- and Turner sucks.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:20 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
But the leadoff hitter is on and this is a chump we can beat.

Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 02:21 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
2-0.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:23 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Not my favorite play, but at least it worked.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:25 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
And, once again, it'll be up to the lefties - and Mattingly doesn't have one in the bullpen.
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 02:26 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Gotta watch out for that double play here.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:28 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Got that hole over at first because they have to hold [crossout:17o7kywm]Tejada[/crossout:17o7kywm] Wright on.
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 02:29 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
I'll take it!
Gwreck Jul 22 2012 02:31 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Bad call at first: Davis obviously safe.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:31 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Would've been a close play at home if Loney fielded that one cleanly.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:32 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
And that's with Jim Joyce umping home
Nymr83 Jul 22 2012 02:32 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |

Mets robbed, Ike was safe! I don't like the Valdespin bunt, inviting them to walk our best hitter with 1B open, thankfully they turned down that invitation.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:33 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
We should probably consider ourselves lucky just to get it tied considering that only one hitter that inning got the ball out of the infield.
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 02:36 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Sticking with Parnell. Right move.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:36 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
So who's left on the bench? Just Hairy & Bay, right?
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 02:38 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |

Was that a straight sacrifice or more of the bunt-for-a-hit-and-take-the-sacrifice-as-a-backup-plan move?
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:39 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
It's almost like Parnell decides ahead of time what he's going to throw on that particular day.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:40 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |

It kind of doesn't matter since bunting for a hit doesn't work when everyone is looking for it.
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 02:41 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Well, it matters because I asked.
Cedeņo also. All righties.
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 02:43 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
That's the way to use a reliever.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:47 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
NOW I wouldn't mind a bunt with Nickeas and leave it up to Hairston & Tejada.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:50 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
And now my previous thought is back on: Bunt w/Nickeas and avoid the potential GiDP
Nymr83 Jul 22 2012 02:50 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |

It is certainly not outside the realm of possibility that, while warming up in the pen, he sees his curve feels particularly good/bad that day and uses it accordingly.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:52 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
I think we just got the make-up call at 1st
Nymr83 Jul 22 2012 02:54 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Yes, he should have been out. TERRIBLE bunt though right back at the mound
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 02:55 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Somebody on this team needs to get a ball out of the infield !!!!!!!!!
DocTee Jul 22 2012 02:59 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Straight sacrifice but Valdy's speed almost made it a hit, too. Nickeas' bunt was one of the worst I've seen-- he should have swung away with the wheel play on anyway, but hard back to the mound is not the way they teach it.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 03:04 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
The thing about the Nickeas bunt was that the play at 3rd was closer than the one at 1st
Nymr83 Jul 22 2012 03:08 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Mets dancing out of trouble... Would REALLY like to end it here with the now-depleted bullpen
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 03:11 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
So it's Valdy - Wright - then Ike against a pitcher making his ML debut: Josh (somebody take him over the) Wall
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 03:15 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
One out, Wright on first. Green light?
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 03:17 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Well, if you said no, you were right.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 03:18 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
15 hits and only 3 runs.
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 03:22 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
So we have the advantage in terms of available arms, but... still gots to push somebody across first.
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 03:24 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Hi, I'm Mike DiMuro!
Nymr83 Jul 22 2012 03:25 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Gwynn was out. This umpire at first base is having a really bad day.
bmfc1 Jul 22 2012 03:25 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Dimuro is even worse than Angel Hernandez and CB Bucknor!
Nymr83 Jul 22 2012 03:28 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Nobody is worse than Angel "I got a flight to catch" Hernandez.
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 03:30 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Two-run lead for the Dodgers.
Edgy MD Jul 22 2012 03:37 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Hey, Josh Lewin. I don't care if a pitcher isn't available tomorrow.
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 03:47 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Don't you just smell a four run inning coming right here?
bmfc1 Jul 22 2012 03:50 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
I smell something... (that was too easy).
Frayed Knot Jul 22 2012 03:53 PM Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days |
Andre Ethier is two skips, a hop, and a well-struck 4-iron ahead of Matt Treanor as a hitter not to mention that that move gets you to Righty/righty instead of Righty-v-lefty and sets up the all-around force. It was the right move, it simply didn't work. And then it was the 14 consecutive two-outs that followed which made it look even worse.
