I guess nobody's watching the game today. (I'm not either.) I just checked the score online, though. Scoreless, Mets batting in the bottom of the third. So far they've had one single by Murphy.

Several tweets about Valdespin, but not saying what he did. What happened?

Got a couple of hits, but I don't know if that's what the Tweets are talking about.

Mattingly comes and gets the starter with 1 out in the 5th even though he still has a lead.
Not sure if this is a good thing or not. We weren't exactly hitting him (most hits were soft) and K-ing a lot, but he was also up around 100 pitches already and so in comes the lefty to face Ike & Muffy with men on.

And neither of them come through and we leave two runners on for the 2nd inning in a row.

btw for youse outta-towners, this game is on TBS

Wow -- Nieuwenhuis got a hit! And off a LHP too!
I think that's his first since sometime in May although I'll have to check the records on that.

I'm a-feared they are coming back to normal. They are what they are-- and Turner sucks.

But the leadoff hitter is on and this is a chump we can beat.

Don't bunt w/Valdy!!

Not my favorite play, but at least it worked.

And, once again, it'll be up to the lefties - and Mattingly doesn't have one in the bullpen.

Got that hole over at first because they have to hold [crossout:17o7kywm]Tejada[/crossout:17o7kywm] Wright on.

Would've been a close play at home if Loney fielded that one cleanly.

C'mon Lucas, send 'em home.

Mets robbed, Ike was safe!

I don't like the Valdespin bunt, inviting them to walk our best hitter with 1B open, thankfully they turned down that invitation.

Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days

We should probably consider ourselves lucky just to get it tied considering that only one hitter that inning got the ball out of the infield.

Sticking with Parnell. Right move.

Sorry now that we got only 12 pitches total out of Rauch and Byrdak.

Was that a straight sacrifice or more of the bunt-for-a-hit-and-take-the-sacrifice-as-a-backup-plan move?

Re: IGT 7/22/12 - LAD@New York: Seen Better Days

It's almost like Parnell decides ahead of time what he's going to throw on that particular day.
Last week there was that outing where he threw nothing but curve-balls. Today everything is on the outside half.

It kind of doesn't matter since bunting for a hit doesn't work when everyone is looking for it.

It is certainly not outside the realm of possibility that, while warming up in the pen, he sees his curve feels particularly good/bad that day and uses it accordingly.

TERRIBLE bunt though right back at the mound

Straight sacrifice but Valdy's speed almost made it a hit, too.

Nickeas' bunt was one of the worst I've seen-- he should have swung away with the wheel play on anyway, but hard back to the mound is not the way they teach it.

The thing about the Nickeas bunt was that the play at 3rd was closer than the one at 1st

So it's Valdy - Wright - then Ike against a pitcher making his ML debut: Josh (somebody take him over the) Wall

So we have the advantage in terms of available arms, but... still gots to push somebody across first.

And now two on and no outs for the Dodgers.

Hi, I'm Mike DiMuro!

By the way, you're allowed to drop a bunt and go for the double play, aren't you? No infield-fly rule on bunts?

Nobody is worse than Angel "I got a flight to catch" Hernandez.

I don't like the intentional walk here. Either isn't THAT good and loading the bases is suspect, you can too easily end up behind in the count with no place to put him

Andre Ethier is two skips, a hop, and a well-struck 4-iron ahead of Matt Treanor as a hitter not to mention that that move gets you to Righty/righty instead of Righty-v-lefty and sets up the all-around force.
It was the right move, it simply didn't work.

And then it was the 14 consecutive two-outs that followed which made it look even worse.
