Valdespin has played some (15) games in the minors in CF. Just saying...

Re: Valdespin

The problem with a pinch-hitter is sample size, he could just be another shmuck who had 10 nice at bats, but they happened to be strung out over two months and they came in the late innings of close games so we remember them.

On the other hand, with Duda down, Bay a POS, and Hairston only worth starting vs lefties there is no real reason not to run Valdespin out there 5-6 days a week and find out how "for real" he is. Unless you'd rather bring Den Dekker up?

Especially his first 10 AB. No real 'book' on him, etc. Sooner or later _everyone_ will realize you can try to hit him and he'll strike out and he'll have to adjust.

Sources: 'Spin suspended in winter ball

By Adam Rubin | ESPNNewYork.com
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Jordany Valdespin had a two-week absence from playing for his winter-ball club in the Dominican Republic because of a team-imposed suspension for insubordination, two sources told ESPNNewYork.com.

Valdespin reappeared as a pinch hitter Saturday after being idle since Nov. 14.

The discipline issue was comparable to the maturity problems the Mets have experienced with Valdespin over the years, one source said.

While Valdespin has some champions within the Mets organization because of his tools, it would not be out of the realm of possibility for him to get traded this offseason. The problem: Other teams also are aware of Valdespin's behavioral track record. One possible destination if a trade materializes would be San Diego, where front-office deputy Omar Minaya is a longtime fan of Valdespin.

Valdespin might want to reference Lastings Milledge and Elijah Dukes about how the wrong attitude can ruin a MLB career for a guy with talent...

I'm more worried about Kevin Mitchell with a cat in his hands.

Jordany Valdespin's tweet apparently is creating a stir on Twitter. Just poor judgment, I suppose.

I have a feeling that "just poor judgement I suppose" is a phrase used to describe a lot of things Jordany does.

Really started as gang wear. I mean before this year did you think people wearing Pirates gear outside of the Pittsburgh area were anything but possibly members of a gang that wears yellow and black?

My brother's been doing this for years. He owns like 8 different team hats.

To say nothing about how annoying the "oh I just like the hat" answer is when you think you've seen a fellow Met fan, or try to have some banter or give sympathy or props to seemingly a fan of an out of town team.

I was referring to how the fashion statement started. How do you think the Mets came to add black as a primary uni/cap color?

Actually I think the "must be a gang member" thing is overhyped and probably not true for most young men who are just following fashion.

He probably looked at the Marlins "depth chart" and realized that if he were on the Marlins, he'd be their 3rd best player based on MLB stats history...(that is one ugly Depth Chart: Stanton; Logan Morrison, and then a crapfest)...problem is, I don't see anyone on the Marlins roster that would make a lot of sense in a trade for the Mets...

youts have thrown that "take your hat off indoor" rule in the trash a long time ago (along with that stupid wearing the hat sideways crap that they like to do nowadays...

The Padres have been looking for lefthanded bats, at least for the bench. I might take a flyer on Kyle Banks. He's struggled with strikeouts and injuries, but 20 HRs in less than 500 major-league ABs while playing his home games in Petco screams upside to me. And he's been fine in the outfield, especially as converted first basemen go. He'd definitely have to pass a physical, but the Padres would presumably have non-tendered him if that was really an issue.

Re: Valdespin

The inclusion of the toilet in the bathroom self-portrait is just one of the many things wrong with this picture.

The fact that he couldn't get a shot of himself in a mirror without avoiding the toilet and shower tub tells me that he's showing off his manflesh to the ladies while in the lower minors, living with someone on a fixed income --- the handle in the shower stall suggests a semi-handicapped senior --- forced by circumstances to take jackass, flat-brimmed Mets borders in.
