Freefall

I regret to inform you that I kinda had visions of Wally Backman dancing in my head last night. (The visions were dancing, not Wally, if that's a distinction worth making.) The 2012 Mets have a lot to be proud of, but they're sort of erasing a big chunk of it every night right now. And a big chunk or good will to go along with it.

barring Wright throwing Collins under the bus, it's not changing. Of course, if they continue to free fall to completely erase the entire first half and play .300 baseball the rest of the way, anything's possible, but that's a long way away right now.

This is 3 post-All-Star free falls and the second on Terry's watch. Very frustrating for sure. It's s hard to expect more from such a young offense. No matter how they finish, I really enjoyed watching their first half.

while pleasantly surprised, I think it makes their job harder. If say Daniel Murphy proved he couldn't cut it at second even a little, it makes it very clear what to do with him. There seem to be a lot of guys that have been wading in that murky "Part of the future, or need replacing" gray area.

I would sooner whack Terry than Sandy, that's for sure. What bothered me as much as anything last night was that it was the second game in this stretch we could have won in regulation (if memory serves) if the pitcher could only get a bunt down. Not up to Terry to execute for them, of course, but somebody's got to answer for the hopelessly casual attention to the finer points this team has shown under his watch.

I'm not sure, but you may be thinking about Nickeas' failed bunt --- the one that almost turned into a double play (and likely should have if not for DiMuro). It would take a lot of good stuff from Nickeas for me to get that taste out of my mouth.

I think the pitchers have, in general, done a better job with most of the fundamentals this year. I imagine we can look up the numbers somewhere, and it's something Terry did in fact mention he was going to work on them with this Spring. Last night you're referring to bot-6 when Thole led off with a single. I doubt that's make or break there and Tejada and Valdespin (who erased two lead-off singles from Tejada) made out after that. What was more damning was the very first batter of the game, when Young failed to snag the liner, then failed to get off the mound quick enough to get it after that. I know he's tall and whatnot, but a little better fielding his position perhaps makes that start a little different.

And man, how do we end up with a Star Wars night featuring special guest... Snooki? And then give away a truck unrelated to either?

John Cougar Lunchbucket Jul 24 2012 08:06 AM Re: Freefall |
I'm thinking of Young last night and Santana in that game he got hammered late. But yeah, Nickeas' bunt sucked too obviously. I don't why we're afraid of replacing him with Ramon Hernandez. We're going to need a better RH hitting reserve catcher sooner or later.

That stuff's pretty comment, the stacking. hell it's popular elsewhere. I went to a Sangria festival on Saturday in the Hudson Valley and there was also a high school reunion (that we pissed off) and a wedding.

Yes, but were all three being thrown by the same people?

yeah, pretty much. we were on a private winery. All sports teams do that. there is always a giveaway unrelated to the 'irish night' dances before the game while there is a charity group being honored. Star Wars is just more involved.

I saw that on television once. Goodness, that was awful! Like, Mets bullpen awful. What a downer! Between the goat-killing old lady and the ultra-evil soldiers killing people -- yuck!

It's like 1993-- studded with loss and pain, ugly in about seven different ways, and costing way too much for the return.
