Trade Dickey.

Given his age, I think Dickey is unlikely to be a major part of the next Mets Championship team which I doubt will be next year with the lineup sucky, the bullpen a mess, and the mob of pitching prospects not ready.

I love Dickey, but with his age and the team in the state it is, a trade makes sense if the Mets want to build for the future.

Successfully battling urge to say something childish. No one on this godforsaken team is untouchable for the right price.

No way! You have to keep him!

If he brought back an outfielder who can catch and hit, you'd be insane not to consider it.

The starters are one area for optimism in '13: RA, Johan, Niese, Gee, Harvey and eventually Wheeler. Of course, Johan and now Gee are question marks but that could be a good rotation. Everything else might suck but leave the one good piece alone. I'd merely consider, as JCL says, but I wouldn't be shopping him.

Catch AND hit? No way! Next you're gonna say "and also hit homeruns, too!" Is that even possible?

Who else on this roster is going to get you back more than a minor league bullpen "prospect" or a couple of org guys? Keep Dickey so we can win 75 instead of 73 this year? 76 instead of 72 next year? No thanks. I'll take a prospect or 3 instead.

While they shouldn't be afraid to talk any team about anyone, the dumbest thing fans and often teams do in this type of situation is decide ahead of time that someone MUST be traded. It's not an either/or thing.

R.A Dickey: four games better than Chris Schwinden over the course of a season. The race to quitting is really not something you want to win.

RA Dickey, slump and all, still tops all NL pitchers in ESPN's Cy Predictor.

Depends on your definition of "faltering", i guess. 5 of his last 6 starts, going back a month, have been crappy, with an ERA over 5, and a WHIP around 1.4. I don't mean its time to "dump" him, but he has clearly come back to Earth. He can be part of a successful rotation, but not the FRONT of such a rotation, and if we can obtain a valuable piece for him, he should clearly be on the table.

"Trade Dickey" sounds like a notorious pimp.

I'm not denying that Dickey's in a slump, but I thought that he had excellent stuff last night. With a little bit of luck, he might've fared a whole lot better. In the inning that RA was tagged for four two out runs, Morse started the Nats two-out nobody on rally with a Texas Leaguer off the very end of his bat. If Morse makes out, it's a whole nuther story. Still, the luck's helped more than hurt RA, overall this season, I'd say.

eh. Trade a guy who will probably be top..say 30 in baseball for maybe 2-3 years if not longer, for a guy who might be top 10 for 6 or so starting in 2+ years and also might be ..Mike Pelfrey or Dillon Gee? I'd keep Dickey.

Depends on what the FO realistically thinks are the Mets chances of contending in the near future. or Depends on what the FO thinks are the Mets chances of realistically contending in the near future.

Except that there's a difference here. - Dickey shows every sign of being able to being a winning pitcher past this year (plus has a reasonable contract to make it possible) so, before dealing him, you want to get someone who'll have a good chance at giving you something above and beyond that. - With Beltran, we knew at mid-year last year that he wasn't going to contribute past September so whatever we got for him was, by definition, a net plus. Wheeler, for as good as he looks so far, is still two jumps below the majors and needs to be consider nothing more than potential at this point. The progress he's made since the deal is what's making it look good right now but let's not pretend that he couldn't just as easily gone the other way. IOW, Dickey is in a position where simply getting something for him doesn't automatically make it worth dealing him. I'd want somebody, or several bodies, that are a lot more ML ready than some promising Single-A pitcher.

No one is untouchable...but I would have to be pretty blown away to consider getting rid of a fairly cheap veteran pitcher who has been very consistent for the team over the past 3 years.

Trade Dickey is untouchable. He owns this neighborhood. Hookers, cops. Shit, he owns the mailman.
