West Coast Wish

I want to see an 11-0 trip, of course, but my reasonable request is 5-6. It would be impossible to do any more of an el foldo than has been done, but if this team is going to show any of that finger-lickin' good resilience it's always going on about (or was, before the current 1-12 skein grew fatal), this is the time. The West Coast has been the Met respectability burial ground for three years running after the break: 2-4 last year (more of a death flourish than death spiral by then); 2-9 in the most hideous example in 2010; and 2-5 in 2009, just as the SHaMs were making it clear they were a sham.

At this point of 2012, there's no standings at stake, just a little unfolding. I'd like to see Terry Collins truly straighten this team out to the point where they're as good a bet to win a game as to lose six. If the head recedes deep into the turtle shell for the next two weeks, it's an indicator that he may not be the leader of men he's been cracked up to be.

I'd like them to not embarrass themselves with poor play.

Re: West Coast Wish

at least 8-3 or I'll probably never expect/care what their record is again this year.

Re: West Coast Wish

I'd like to see the trip start 0-5 just so the Mets can realize they should be sellers before the deadline.

That don't work.

Re: West Coast Wish

In my mind, only an 11-0 road trip and then a 6-0 home stand to follow would put the Mets back into the postseason discussion. That's how far they have fallen.

Ready, Mets? Go!

Re: West Coast Wish

When one of these trips starts, I always want to see them rip through the West Coast like the San Andreas Fault. (I'm heavily invested in Seaport of Phoenix bonds) But this year, I feel that they will only (to paraphrase Moiph) waft like a gentle breeze.

Per Metsblog:

“I don’t think anything can get any worse than this right now,” Thole later told reporters. “We can’t wait to get out of here right now,” he said, as his team packed up around him before leaving for an 11-game, West Coast road trip that starts tonight.

IMO, players wanting to leave for a west coast road trip in order to get away from home is a sign of just how lost this team is.

Re: West Coast Wish

I think that some of the Mets pitchers wish that Thole would get out of there.

I know what he meant but it's not he smartest thing to say to your fans. Perhaps: "a change of scene might do us good."

I'm totally with you there. I know we're up against it talent wise most nights, but once the team starts believing that it's self-fulfilling. What bothers me about this bad stretch isn't the losses so much as the sloppy play & lack of CAHNfidence that's infected these guys, and the very same thing happened last year.

yeah, Thole apparently amended this statement less it came out the wrong way.....west coast trips IIRC usually are not good for the Mets .

Re: West Coast Wish

I'd get on a plane to anywhere if I was playing like that. Allows you to trick your mind into believing you're leaving your shit behind you.

To the extent that the issue is confidence, that can work. To the extent that issue is talent, well, your shit is right beside you.

Re: West Coast Wish

My reasonable request was 5-6 after 0-6 homestand. They are 6-4 with one to go. Well done (but don't head for the airport early).
