So, pow-pow-pow, 14 dead at a Dark Night Rises screening.

On a final note, it is somewhat unfortunate the franchise will be rebooted after this, as some other members of Batman's rogues gallery may have benefited from the more seriously-toned approch. I was especially looking forward to Batman locking horns with the villain known as RUSH, the loopy right-wing shock jock who bores innocent civilians to death with incredulous stories of liberal conspiracies.

How about some KGBEAST action?

I never understand why they insist on rebooting. Change actors, fine, I get all that, but do you really have to keep going back to origin stories?

Particularly with Batman/Spiderman that even the general public knows well. There are thousands upon thousands of cool comics/stories with these guys. Just go the the Dr Who/James Bond route the story isn't anchored to one actor.

I haven't checked. I'm sure it's there. People are always pushing agendas and I just laugh at them.

It is possible to talk/grieve/discuss a news story/tragedy without breaking it down like you would a sports game right?

If everyone was trained to use firearms and carried them everywhere they go, shootings like this wouldn't happen. Most criminals wouldn't dare to try and would be taken out swiftly if they did. Just think of how the army who all have access to firearms and some of the best weapons training in the world responded to the Ft. Hood incident. Oh wait...

What is it about this movie?
Not that I think the shooting spree had anything to do with the content (it couldn't, could it?) but a couple of days ago I was reading about a web site shutting down because of on-line threats being made against those reviewers who didn't give it good enough reviews.

I'm not endorsing this perspective, because it's woefully premature, but there's chatter out there that the perp is an Occupy guy who thought the movie presented characters analogous to Occupiers in a negative light.

Bane was created in 1993 by the same conspiracy-minded folks who put the fake birth announcement in the Honolulu papers in 1961.

Probably installed after the Christmas night (1990) shooting at the opening night showing of 'Godfather Part III'
That was the first thing I thought of after hearing about this this morning.
What is it about premiers?

That one (IIRC) was some kind of turf-war where several belligerents happened to find themselves in the same theatre at the same time.
Nothing like the obviously pre-planned spree in Colorado.

My personal experience with guns only runs to our old high school Rifle team.

I became afraid of guns then, and some of the people on the team.

They tend to get used..

I remember when all shootings at movie theaters were "apparently gang-related." (Y'know, because they happened at movies like "New Jack City," or "Juice.")

I'd dispute the notion that a shooting isn't "pre-planned" when someone leaves their house with a gun and then takes shots at someone because they belong to a rival gang/group. "I'll shoot them if i happen to see them" is still pre-meditation imo.

Shame Charlton Heston's dead. He could have attended the hastily organized NRA Rally in Aurora, CO which I'm sure will take place next week.

Seriously wtf is wrong with CO?

Columbine, Buell Elementary, and now this. What's one impressive CV.

Edit: Buell Elementary was in Michigan.

I haven't seen the film, and I certainly had no intention to before the shooting, but I understand from the reviews that the film has characters that reviewers are seeing as analogous to Occupy protesters.

You could interpret it this way, but I'll be naive and say it was coincidence:

MAJOR SPOILER TO THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (CODED IN YELLOW): A major plot point to the film involves Bane literally "occupying" the Gotham Stock Exchange (filmed on the location outside the Broad Street subway station, of course), executing some bogus backdated trades, holds and kills hostages and then escapes.

Re: Batman Shootings in Colorado (split from Film Review For

Yeah, I'm sure the script was mostly developed prior to the flowering of the Occupy movement. My only point was that if trigger boy was seeing a parallel (which, I must underscore, is still largely a point of speculation), he wasn't the only one. In fact, I would guess that, since it was a midnight opening night showing, any parallel that offended him was a second-hand understanding gleaned from the reviews.

A school I once covered. It's in a Flint suburb that's more of an extension of the city, and not a good one. I'd just started working for the paper in Grand Rapids, but still living in the Flint area when that happened. Interviewed the mother of the girl at the Million Mom March. Horrible.

I remember from the movie it was near a GM Plant that had been shutdown. A friend looked into this case in detail for her Doctorate. The perpetrator is readily available on fb in case anybody's interested. (I had second thoughts about posting the link).
