They all got MVP support --- multiple-time top-ten MVP finishers or something like that.

Re: Mets Pitcher Trivia

Checking and... nope. Orel only finished once in the top ten and Nomo not at all.

I'm looking for an answer here, godamnit, not a theory of categories.

Re: Mets Pitcher Trivia

My answer was Met pitchers who were during their careers two-time top-ten MVP finishers. My answer was wrong.

Both MM's were Dodgers. But that's the wrong answer, still.

Jones and Hershiser have first names that come up in Fman's conversation on a regular basis.

Johan got MVP votes in several seasons. And he's on the not list.

So was Dean Chance. And Mike Scott. And a fella by the name of Seaver. Don't think Lary was. But I'm adding one more pitcher to the list:

Warren Spahn.

So ... What do these Mets pitchers have in common:

Frank Lary
Randy Jones
Pedro Martinez
Orel Hershiser
Hideo Nomo
Mike Marshall
Warren Spahn

The answer to this question is not so obvious. I'm just sayin'.

Re: Mets Pitcher Trivia

Until you added Spahn, I was thinking pitchers who were acquired twice by the Mets.

Sounds like you're asking for a hint. Your wish is my command. It's now mathematically, scientifically and logically impossible for Johan to accomplish what Jones, Spahn, et. al. once did. But Santana could have, at one point in his career.

I'll try and post the answer in the next hour or so.

I'm completely lost, but I'll keep 20 questioning you if you want.

Is it something accomplished as a Met, or is the fact that they were Mets irrelevant except to the point of grouping them for this trivia?

It's what they did before playing for the Mets. That's why Johan can no longer do it.

All were featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in their pre-Mets days.

There was an SI called something like "the best rookies of 1968" that had a few players including Mike Torrez on the cover.

On the cover before becoming a Met in 1983.

What?

Not pictured: Braves, No. 47, muttering, Get off me! Get off me! I'm choking! And I plan to make a long-term habit of it after I'm gone from here!"

Re: Mets Pitcher Trivia

I was going for pitchers featured exclusively on the cover. I should've phrased better. Besides, Koosman should be in Torres's seat.

Seaver's a stretch. If he's in, then it's still theoretically possible for Johan to one day make this list. And if Seaver's in, so's Coney.

Re: Mets Pitcher Trivia

Since that one got answered, I have another one.
I read that Tom Seaver hit a home run against the Mets after he got traded away. Who was the pitcher he hit it off? (I don't know the answer)

I know that Seaver doubled off Koosman in his very first game at Shea following the trade, but I don't know the answer to the HR question.

Nope. I struck his grape-stomping ass out on a slider, low and away.

Oh, Craig Swan. Never mind.
