Silly Yankees. Apparently the Scranton Wilkes-Barre people realize the great shame brought on by having "Yankees" as part of their name and want a new one. They're having a fan contest, and these are the nominees. No, I'm not making this up. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Name The Team Contest Thank you for an outstanding turnout for our Name-The-Team Contest Ideas. More than 2,700 names were submitted! We've narrowed down the list to 6 names based on Scranton/Wilkes-Barre relevance, family-friendliness and fun. The railroad is a big part of the history of Scranton. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steamtown_ ... toric_Site What used to be the headquarters of the railroad was converted to a hotel. (It was a Hilton the last time I was there.) I spent a lot of time in Scranton on business but it was over 20 years ago. The two things I remember most (other than the museum/hotel) were: 1) A restaurant downtown near the U of Scranton that had over 100 beers on the menu. They were pictured around the placemat that they gave you while you waited at the bar for a table in what was one of the top-100 rated fish restaurants in the country. You circled the one you wanted and they brought it to you in the bottle that many folks kept for a souvenir. 2) The rusting cars that covered the hills on both sides of the river, starting just outside of town and seemingly extending for miles. It was quite of sight. Anyhow, if they pick the railroad name, it woukd be very appropriate. Later

I'm of the opinion that every minor league team should have a nickname reflecting its own local identity and never be named for a parent club. In this case I wonder why they didn't just keep the Red Barons name they used from 1989-2006?
