It's been about a year and a half since we last played this game. So what's new on your itunes? Other than classical and holiday music? Or Al Leiter Pitching a Two-Hitter In the Wild Card Clincher? Oh, and off "American Woman":

"Amie" (Counting Crows) -- different version! aha.
"Amish Paradise" (Weird Al) -- insuring that TMF follows this post. This is one of Al's parodies that vastly improves the original.
"Amongst The Waves" (Pearl Jam)
"Amsterdam" (Guster) -- talk about solid, underrated bands...
"Amsterdam" (Van Halen) -- WHAM BAM!
"Amy's On The Run" (Thunder) -- multiple versions, natch.
"Anarchy in the UK" (Sex Pistols, Motley Crue)
"And She Was" (Talking Heads)
"And So It Goes" (Billy Joel) -- I really love this tune. Sappy, overwrought, but really pretty.
"And The Bullshit Goes On" (Wildhearts) -- THE BEST BAND YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF.

"And She Was" (Talking Heads)

And That Was Yesterday - Jules Shear
And the Cradle Will Rock - Van Halen (first Van Halen song I knew. I read somewhere that chuffy beginning part isn't a guitar but an effect on an organ or something)
And the Singer Sings His Song - Neil Diamond
And the Winner Is... - Chubb Rock with Howie T
And Vandalism - You Am I
And We Danced - The Hooters (on a wave of an ocean, romanced)
And When You Wake Up - Blue Rodeo

And Your Bird Can Sing - Matthew Sweet (my streaming library don;t include Beatles songs)

I love Dar Williams. The group we camp with at Falcon Ridge is named Camp Dar Camp in her honor.

So, going off the three versions of 'As Cool as I Am' by Dar, and one by the Brown University Chattertocks:

1. As Good As It's Been - Stephen Kellogg - Lucky Eleven
2. As I'm Leaving - David Gray - Lost Songs
3. As I Tell You So - Rebecca Loebe - Hey, it's a Lonely World
4. As Long As I Live - Diana Krall - Steppin' Out
5. As Usual - polaris - Music from The Adventures of Pete & Pete
6. As You Are Now - Suzanne Vega - Beauty & Crime
7. Ascent - Richard Shindell - Blue Divide
8a. The Ascent Of Man - R.E.M. - Around The Sun
8b. The Ascent Of Man - R.E.M. - Live
9. The Ascent Of Stan - Ben Folds - Rockin' The Suburbs
10. Ashamed of the Story I Told - polaris - Music from The Adventures of Pete & Pete

We do house concerts a couple of times each year. Two years ago I got a call from a regular at our series, who asked about setting up a show with a couple of friends of his. The three of them played in our living room in September of 2010. About eight months later one of the friends, Rebecca Loebe, was on 'The Voice.' She was selected in the tryout round and eliminated in the next round.

I really enjoyed 'Pete and Pete.' Michael Stipe's cameo as ice cream vendor Captain Scrummy is one of the most unusual things I've seen on television.

I suppose in retrospect...

off "The Ascent of Stan":

"Ashamed" (Hot Leg) - Justin Hawkins, after the Darkness kicked him out, released a solo album. It's largely terrible.
"Ashes To Ashes" (Faith No More) - off their last record, "Album of the Year," which wasn't entirely terrible.
"Asshole" (Denis Leary) - In college, we knew this whole record, forward and backward. Listened to it a million times. It's the "Raw" of our generation.
"At Or With Me" (Jack Johnson)
"Atheists Don't Have No Songs" (Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers) - Sang this with three other guys at our UU church's pledge drive dinner this fall. Enormous fun.
"Atlanta" (Butch Walker) - four versions, natch.
"Atlantic City" (Bruce Springsteen) - and a cover by the Hold Steady
"Atomic Dog" (George Clinton)
"Attitude Adjustment" (Aerosmith)
"Auld Lang Syne" (Barenaked Ladies) - studio and a live version. LOVE this live.
"Authority Song" (John Mellencamp)

Mellencamp's a bonus 11th song because the BNL tune is on my computer, but not synced to my iPod until holiday time.

It's apparently Devil's Answer as the name of the song. I just listened to it for the first time and googled the lyrics.

It's from a rock compilation torrent I downloaded on a whim of "I need more rock music. I have no idea what music is. gimme the classics or something!" I don't know why they don't have the titles.

Have you guys heard No. 2? It was some self-recorded thing by 2 teen brothers on an Oregon farm in 1979, stumbled across by some blogger, now getting a 30+ year second wind on the Internet and a cover version by some hot indy chick artist we're supposed to know about.

Great stuff!

Baby's In Black (third one with that song)

1. Baby's On Fire -- Brian Eno
2. Baby -- Os Mutantes
3. Baby Don't You Do It -- The Who
4. Baby Faroukh -- Billy Bragg
5. Baby Genius -- Eels

7. Baby Lee -- Teenage Fanclub
8. Baby Let Me Follow You Down -- Marianne Faithfull*
9. Baby Please Don't Go -- The Amboy Dukes*
10. Baby Stick Around -- Joe Jackson*

These songs should have a comma after Baby. I have several versions of Bob Dylan's "Baby, Let Me Follow You Down" but they don't show up with Marianne Faithfull since she didn't use a comma (or at least the folks who put together the "Chimes Of Freedom" collection elected not to).

Offa Baby You're A Rich Man (last of the un-comma'd "Baby" songs)

2. Baby, Let Me Follow You Down -- Bob Dylan (from both "Freewheelin'" and "Bootleg Series Vol. 5")
3. Bach Is Dead -- The Residents
4. Back Door Man -- Howlin' Wolf
5. Back In Buffalo -- Leo Kottke
6. Back In the Box -- David Byrne
7. Back In the Crowd -- Tom Waits

Off "USSR":

"Back In Time" (Huey Lewis) - The forgotten great song from "Back to the Future."
"Back In Vietnam" (Lenny Kravitz) - Hey, JCL! Lenny!
"Back In Your Face" (Def Leppard) - channels 70s glam rock in the best ways.
"Back In Your Kitchen" (Tommy Shaw) - the former Styx/Damn Yankees frontman released a bluegrass record. Actually kinda cool.
"Back Off Bitch" (GNR)
"Back On The Chain Gang" (Pretenders) - Voted "Most Likely Song In This List To Be Played Off Next."
"Back On The Train" (Phish)
"Back Round" (Wolfmother) - So much potential after one album. Then nothing.
"Back Street Symphony" (Thunder) - I usually think of "back street" as one word, and, checking, the other seven versions I have of this come up later, alphabetically. Thunder's amazing "Laughing On Judgment Day" record came out twenty years ago today, by the way.
"Back To December" (Taylor Swift) - My favorite Taylor Swift song. (Seriously.)

Another band I never would have gave a 2nd thought to were it not fro streaming.

I thought Hanoi Rocks were "metal" but it turns out they were actually kind of a Sacndanavian Mott the Hoople. The only "metal" thing they did was get their drummer killed.

Who inherits your iTunes library?
Why your digital books and music may go to the grave

Many of us will accumulate vast libraries of digital books and music over the course of our lifetimes. But when we die, our collections of words and music may expire with us.

Someone who owned 10,000 hardcover books and the same number of vinyl records could bequeath them to descendants, but legal experts say passing on iTunes and Kindle libraries would be much more complicated.

And one’s heirs stand to lose huge sums of money. “I find it hard to imagine a situation where a family would be OK with losing a collection of 10,000 books and songs,” says Evan Carroll, co-author of “Your Digital Afterlife.” “Legally dividing one account among several heirs would also be extremely difficult.”

From Backstreets

1. Backyard - Guster - Keep it Together
2. Bad 2009 - Nano Frog - Fantastic
3. The Bad Actress - Josh Ritter - Hello Starling
4. Bad As I Am - Great Big Sea - Turn
5. Bad Bad World - Guster - Easy Wonderful
6. Bad Boy - The Beatles - Past Masters, Vol. 1
7. Bad Day - Brad Yoder - 22 Songs (Random Music)
8a. Bad Day - R.E.M. - In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003
8b. Bad Day - R.E.M. - Live
9. Bad Graces - Diego Sandrin - Paste Magazine Sampler #35
10. Bad Idea - The Folkadelics - The Folkadelics

Nano Frog is a co-worker of mine and a couple of friends who made some very listenable noise-rock in the early 2000s. In addition to working here he also has built a number of devices such as oscillators and a photo theremin that he sells under the name Electro-Faustus. Clearly the least likely track to be used as a jumping off point for the next player.

Guster! Josh Ritter! How acoustic.

Off "Bad Day":

"Bad Love" (Eric Clapton) - I got "Journeyman" from Columbia House/BMG back in the day, and just played the hell out of it. It's a poppy record, but a really good one.
"Bad Luck" (Shovels & Rope) - Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent; they opened for Butch Walker on his latest tour, and were REALLY impressive live. Just released their first major-label disc, "O Be Joyful," which is one of my records of the year. This tune comes from a free sampler Noisetrade posted in June: http://blog.noisetrade.com/2012/06/shov ... e-sampler/
"Bad Luck" (Social Distortion) - Gotta love the D.
"Bad Medicine" (Bon Jovi) - Their worst song.
"Bad Motor Scooter" (Montrose)
"Bad Obsession" (GNR)
"Bad Rain" (Slash)
"Bad Reputation" (Damn Yankees) - Stupid hair metal collapse. These guys had two really, really good records. Wish the "missing" third record would see the light of day.
"Bad Reputation" (Joan Jett)
"Bad Reputation" (Thin Lizzy) -- also a Tesla cover, off their two-disc "Real To Reel" set.

Ten songs, seven total different titles.

Working off Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation"

"Bad Romance" by the Glee cast
"Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga

I take no responsibility for these two. The family works off the same iTunes. They belong to the 15-year-old daughter, of course.

"Bad Time" by Grand Funk Railroad, from Flint Michigan, where they are still revered.
"Bad/40/Where the Streets Have No Name" by U2, a B-side on the Electrical Storm CD single.
"Badge" by Cream
"Baker Street" by the Foo Fighters
"Baleen Morning" by Balmorhea

I take no responsibility for that one, either.

"The Ballad of Billy the Kid" by Billy Joel (four versions)
"Ballroom Blitz" by Sweet
"Ballroom Dancing" by Paul McCartney

I know the "Give My Regards to Broad Street" movie was a bomb, but the soundtrack is really, really good!

9. The Ballad Of Young Alban And Amandy - eastmountainsouth - eastmountainsouth

RIchard Shindell wrote the wonderful 'Ballad of Mary Magdalene,' and when he, Dar Williams and Lucy Kaplansky formed the one-off group Cry Cry Cry they recorded eleven covers and one song by a member, but Dar Williams sand lead.

Paul and Storm are half of DaVinci's Notebook, an a Capella comedy group that had a pretty good three CD run in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Speaking of covers, Lyle Lovett's Step Inside This House is a two CD set of covers of Texas songwriters. He even digs up good songs from Micheal Murphey, not including 'Wildfire.'
