IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats
John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 17 2012 09:20 AM |
Nats are another team that's had their way with us this year. They are due for an unexpected rogering and we're just the guys to administer it.

Jason Bay hitting behind Ronny Cedeno against a left-handed starter. Not even in my most pessimistic flashbacks to Jim Fregosi or Joe Foy did I think we would end up here.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 17 2012 01:41 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
We're gonna kick the shit out of these guys. I know I predicted the same thing last weekend but I was a week early. The 2nd Wind SHaM era began last night.

Like, as power bottoms?

Use your imagination, it's gonna be thrusty.

Ceetar Aug 17 2012 04:59 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
4 home runs for the Mets tonight, not bad.

ooo, I would have sent him.

I expect these Nat game to be complete torture, so I am prepared.

Zvon Aug 17 2012 05:49 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
Hairys hot. 2 doubles. Are there two outs? Yea, so Im gonna write that in as another Murphy RBI right now.

WTF? Do our pitchers have targets on them for harrassment? They make Santana put tape on his glove?

Good job by Johan.

This one made sense. Dickey's leather bracelet made none. Johan already has 5 more outs in this start than he got in his last one.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 17 2012 06:13 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
Mildly surprising how strongly Ronnie spoke out-- "That's weak... pretty weak."-- against his former bossman, eh?
|

ooo, 3 doubles for Hairball.
|
Frayed Knot Aug 17 2012 06:54 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
|
Yeah, but they're not doing enough with them. A lead off double gets followed by a pair of soft grounders which gets in the run but also kills any chance of a big inning. It's like this offense is satisfied just to make contact. Even the four doubles they've hit have all been more well-placed than scorched.

Oh great, Acosta. Does this mean we give up?

Fman99 Aug 17 2012 07:04 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
That was some fine kaboomage by Kelly "Leak" Shoppach. C'mon, Rube, get on base.
|
Zvon Aug 17 2012 07:07 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
We can still get back in this.
|
Frayed Knot Aug 17 2012 07:09 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
And a nice Shoppach HR - is followed by a weak ground ball sandwiched by two 3-pitch Ks.
|
Fman99 Aug 17 2012 07:18 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
Nice! Kelly with the throw and Sugarpants with the tag.
|
Zvon Aug 17 2012 07:21 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
ooo, nice throw by Shoppach!
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 17 2012 07:21 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
We got this thing, you guys. Go SHaMs!
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Aug 17 2012 07:25 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
Shoppach's having a nice all-around game so far... let's hope it's not a Pagan Special (kicking ass in a losing effort).

Aw fuck. Scott, we needed you there.
|
Frayed Knot Aug 17 2012 07:30 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
And another lead-off runner ruined by [say it with me folks] failure to get the fucking ball out of the infield for the rest of the fucking inning.
|
Zvon Aug 17 2012 07:34 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
Nice catch Rubin.

Let's take it to this asshole again.

That's a finish.

Frayed Knot Aug 17 2012 07:52 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
The outcome of that top 9th inning was almost irrelevant.

they still had Parnell and Rauch actually, might have been okay.
|
bmfc1 Aug 17 2012 09:19 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
ARGH! Two questions: on the single that preceded the Harper bomb, it looked like Wright and Tejada expected the other to get it so neither made an effort. Is that how it looked on TV?
|
Edgy MD Aug 17 2012 10:55 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
Yeah, it was disappointing to go down with two lefties on the bench while letting three righties bat.
|
Ceetar Aug 18 2012 06:08 AM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
|
Looked hard it and like they didn't really have time to react to me, but I don't think you could see both fielders in the tv shot. Collins goes to the platoon advantage seemingly to a fault, (and bungles Turner's reverse-split seemingly every time) except when you expect him to. I guess it was a not to Kelly's power, but ultimately the game ended on what seemed like Tejada trying to hit one out (again)

Right, because neither one of them has melted down in key situations, or had a "what is HE still doing on the roster?" remark thrown at him. And our 1-6 extra-inning record sure inspires confidence. The larger point being that when this team is down by 2 heading into the 9th in a road game they essentially need at least 4 runs before winning even reaches a 50/50 proposition.
It was a clean single, simply a perfectly placed grounder. It also turned out to be the only hit the Nats got that wasn't scorched somewhere. For the rest of the game most of their outs were harder hit than our extra-base hits with the exception of Shoppach's HR.
He could have although you're trying for a 2R poke there so your odds are probably better with Shopvac there even with the R-on-R deal -- we are talking 65 careers HRs vs 8 combined for Thole + Baxter.

Frayed Knot Aug 18 2012 06:48 AM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
Looking back over the play by play recap I see One hard-hit out by the Mets last night, Torres's drive to RF that almost got over Werth's head although even that looked a bit better than it actually was only because Werth had been playing him so shallow.
|
bmfc1 Aug 18 2012 08:14 AM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
Thanks for the recap FK. I thought it was my dismay making me see nothing but grounders and popups.
|
Edgy MD Aug 18 2012 12:04 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
Torres had another hard out to right center.
|
Frayed Knot Aug 18 2012 01:05 PM Re: IGT 8/17, Mets @ Nats |
I mentioned both of the ones by Torres: one deep to RF that moved Cedeno over to 3rd and his semi-well hit FO to CF for the 2nd AB of the game. Other than that he K'd and grounded out.
