IGT 8/21/2012 Rockies @ Mets: Sigh, Young

Swan Swan H
Aug 21 2012 01:37 PM

Chris Young will be the tallest person out there when the Mets take on the Colorado Rockies tonight at Citi Field. They will face Jhouyls Chacin, whose first name was my most recent rack of letters in Words With Friends. A bit of flippage in the 1-2 and 3-4 spots today, and the bottom third is just that.

Baxter – RF
Tejada – SS
Davis – 1B
Wright – 3B
Murphy – 2B
Valdespin – LF
Torres – CF
Thole – C
Young – P

Someday, maybe in his nineties, Terry will wake up and realize that Murphy in the middle of the lineup was no way to hang himself.

Hopefully Torres will get lost on his way to Citi. He certainly seems lost inside it.

Muffy is basically hitting like Paul LoDuca and he's been cleanup or 5th almost the whole year.

Love the thread title........I can't remember the last time I saw so few Mets games in a season on the telly. They suck of course and I have family out from Ireland for the summer.

That's four long/loud outs for Wright in his last five ABs - in addition to his 2B & IW last night.

So is there anyone who DIDN'T know that, as soon as the perfecto disappeared, the lead was only seconds from following suit?

And, to think, the Rox STILL haven't hit a ball hard and yet are on the verge of effectively ending this game right here.

Yes, which is why I immediately switched to the Orioles/Rangers game, which is shaping up to be a very nice game.

Was AFK for this. Reads as a ground out to pitcher but I don't know if it was a sac.

No bunt, it was a come-backer where Torres was running on the pitch so it had the effect of a sac.
The problem came when Torres didn't know when NOT to run.

Right move to send him.
There were two outs and it could be two more innings (or two more days) until our next hit.

I could see as that play developed that Tejada was gonna be out by a mile. He was just rounding 3rd as the left fielder got the ball.

If he slides in feet-first there Keith he would have been out. The "terrible" slide was the only thing that got him in there.

Keith can get a bit unglued on stuff that doesn't adhere to his orthodoxy.

Exactly. Even on the slo-mo replay, that much was obvious. Still an ugly slide, but he was right to do it.

Re: IGT 8/21/2012 Rockies @ Mets: Sigh, Young

I love when Keith goes off the rails because he's disgusted with the game, but it's pathetic that it's only a three-run game and he's pretty confident that this thing is over and he's already mentally checked out.

That might have been the first time the Rox hit one right at one of our guys tonight.
'Bout time after all the cheesy hits they've rung up.

Now if only I had some confidence that our offense could take advantage of that break.

If he's going to be inaccurate, I'd rather that he be funny or be quiet. And speaking of checking out... where's Ronnie this week? Traveling?

I'd ask whether it was pointless to double-switch when he could have just pinch-hit with Hairston later, but, well... I'm done with wondering why Collins did the stupid/wasteful thing, and have come around to accepting that he'll just tend toward that instead of the other thing.

The only team hitting worse than us this week is Colorado.
The difference is that we're handing them the game and they're just opportunistic enough to take it as well as, let's face it, more than a bit lucky.
