IGT 8/23/12 -- Rockies @ Mets

Frayed Knot
Aug 23 2012 06:52 AM

1:10 first pitch -- so we're gettin' the pain over early today.

Most notable thing about today is the ML debut of Collin McHugh (must be Italian)
I hope he can hit.

Tyler Chatwood is the opposing pitcher who I think is the same guy who hit the game-winning bucket for Hickory HS in the Indiana state hoops championship.
In the baseball part of his life he's made just 4 starts this season and has an ERA of 5-1/2 and a WHiP of 1.63 ... IOW, we're dead.

Over/Under on bunt plays screwed up = 2.5

I got excited when I set the DVR to record the game, because I saw what I thought was a live Mets Fast-Forward in that slot, and thought, "They can cut out the middleman? Why don't they do this for EVERY game?"

Mets are 3-0 on Thursdays this month, with 23 of their sixty runs on the day that gives children far to go.

It's been the hump day that the team finally says "Enough bullshit this week," before tanking the weekend away as well.

A confluence of Gabby and Thursday and Morrissey McHugh. Get your money down on the Mets today, folks.

The reason for me would be to see if he can do what a lead off hitter should be able to do. I don't like him in that spot in any case. But this is the time for Shorty to take a look at things for the future.

2.5 if strictly defense. The line for defense + offense is 3.5

The Rox bunted with the 2nd batter of the game and Ike tried to mess it up but bucked the recent rend by recovering in time.

Noticed plenty of good seats out there for the taking.

Two plays stood out -- the Baxter gaffe on the bases, and Valdespin badly misplaying that ball in center. From our vantage point, in the Promenade and behind the plate, we could tell right away that he was blowing it in real time.

Two things I saw in section 514 today that you don't normally see.

1. A woman (at left, in grey) carrying a 1987 era cell phone AND a man's wallet in her ample sized brassiere.

2. An obese man talking to a Mr. Met hand puppet during tense moments of the game, which then responded to him with hand puppet appropriate arm gesturing.

Great day for baseball at Citi Field. Would love to see some Met take one deep the way Fboy did on the kids' tee in right center.

He counts as a Met.

This is a thing of beauty. I will be sure Fboy sees it tomorrow.

Awesome!!!

Wow, that's the sort of hard-core unemployable maniac attending on third-hand tickets that you ran into at Art Howe games.

He looks like the prototypical comic book store employee.

I think the hand-puppet thing is actually kind of funny. Sure it carries with it the possibility of getting pretty creepy pretty quickly, but whatthehell.
The less said about the woman, however, the better.

I'm getting a creepy "Anthony Hopkins in the movie Magic" vibe from Met hand puppet guy.

I like how worried Mr. Met looks.

Zvon's work on the picture of Fboy was fantastic. It deserves a prominent place on the Fman refrigerator.

The man talking to the Mr. Met hand puppet may either be creepy or endearing, but I'm going to go with awesome.

None from me. Everything in this thread smacks of awesomeness. Except, of course, the Mets taking a big shit in the batters' boxes.
