NYM offense held hostage: Day 8?

The previous 7 games have featured 2 runs or less, and have done so against some of the worst pitching the NL has to offer.
And today we're facing a bad pitcher, a really bad pitcher. Or, at least, a pitcher whose name really is Abad.
Fernando Abad is making his first start of his career following 30 relief appearances this season [3.86 ERA; 1.41 WHiP] and 81 overall

Today's players voted most likely to hit into weak ground-outs include:
CF - Torres
SS - Tejada
3B - Wright
RF - Hairston
1B - Turner
2B - Cedeno
LF - Bay
C - Thole
P - Dickey

Hmmm, it's Piazza bobblehead day, and the Mets are keeping the sans black snow-whites on.

Perhaps too much backlash from bringing the Black out for Franco HOF night, and Alfonzo bobblehead day?

The two teams struggling to avoid their respective cellars and feeling the heat, tempers flare in the first inning as Olivia and Tracy come to blows.

"The blackout's for your own good. Just think of the Mets as a solar eclipse
that could blind anyone looking. And viewed in that light (Ha! I'm so funny)
this game is also practically uninsurable. Blame Fred Wilpon".

My son and I are watching rugby. Warrington just scored to go up 35-14 on Leeds. I have only the faintest idea of what the hell is going on out there as far as strategy, but it's entertaining.

It's horrible. They're looting the souvenir stands, fires are breaking out in the men's rooms and there's no water in the urinals to flush it out, and dozens of visiting Yankee fans are stranded on the escalators.

Abad has retired eight of the fourteen batters he's faced ... yet is unscored upon.

Seems to me that I've seen this movie before and I don't like how it ends.

And Citi Field being a mostly dividerless urinal stadium, I wouldn't wanna have to take a piss in the dark.

What kind of a fan-loathing maniac decides to design a stadium that has urinal dividers only in the premium seats?

More Tribune stations go dark on Cablevision
Retrans scuffle stretches into its second week
By Cynthia Littleton
The last Tribune-owned outlets went dark on Cablevision systems at midnight Saturday as the retrans blackout stretches into its second week.

Fox affiliate WTIC in Hartford, Conn., and Tribune's WGN America channel were blacked out as of midnight ET. Those two outlets had remained on Cablevision's lineup even as it dropped four other Tribune stations, including WPIX-TV New York, just before midnight on Aug. 16.

Cablevision is running a Jerseylicious marathon this afternoon on WPIX/channel 11.

Abad: 19 batters faced - 10 retired - 1 run allowed

This team isn't just straining the limits of credibility but also the limits of math.

A [u:1xq30z2t]3rd Run[/u:1xq30z2t]!!!! - for the first time in a week.
The fact there there were two on and one out after that and no more came in is still a problem but, baby steps.

7th inning stretch crowd shot.

Notes from the game, if we're still doing that:

1. Greene laced a single to right field, and the throw was headed to third. Ruben Tejada jumped like he was going to cut it off, and seemingly deked Green into not taking second. Heads up.

Crowd was dead. Pretty sure it took until the 9th for a Lets Go Mets chant. (and I don't think we were prompted for one ever..)

Steak Sandwich is yummy. you knew that.

I hate when the U.S. Open is there too. so messy with parking/traffic.

Got a bobblehead and a 50th anniversary Mets ice cream helmet.

Josh Thole came to bat to "Who let the dogs out" in one at-bat.

They were randomly playing the James Bond theme between innings at one point. Would've been cooler on the organ.

Also, just the simple act of getting the throw low enough and accurate enough to where the runner thinks it could be cut-off is enough to hold runners, with or without a good deke -- and that's what our outfielders have not been doing a good job on all year (hence our whole thread here somewhere on our pitiful OF throws)

Josh Thole came to bat to "Who let the dogs out" in one at-bat.

I'd bench him on those grounds alone.

Hairston to me has been and adequate but not particularly adept outfielder, but he made that throw pretty well. He also hustled over and cut off a liner down the line to keep it at a single. so props to Hairston today. I don't remember where he played in San Diego, but maybe he's just a better Rightfielder overall?

Well, on Piazza Bobblehead day I think Thole gets a pass for Who Let the Dogs Out.
