OOTS: 9/6-9/9 Weekend Thread

Trying to do other stuff and wife isn't around so flipped on the Orioles game as background noise.

O's up 5-1 on the Yankees. If they build a statue for Jeter, it should be of him looking back at the ump gesturing that the pitch was outside.

That's so cool.

6 HRs tonight. That's the kinda humiliation they deserve.

Re: OOTS: 9/6-9/9 Weekend Thread

Mark Reynolds got off to a ridiculously slow start this year (2 HRs by the end of May) especially considering that if he's not hitting HRs then he's pretty much useless.
Even now he "only" has 20 HRs - but 8 of them have come in the last 7 games and 6 have come vs the Yanquis.

I still have no idea how good this team is but there's no denying that there's some wild shit going on in 'Charm City' this season.

Re: OOTS: 9/6-9/9 Weekend Thread

One of the advantages to living so far away from the City is that New York isn't considered my local market, so the game isn't blacked out on the MLB package; I'm listening to Gary Thorne instead of the yutzes at YES.

Re: OOTS: 9/6-9/9 Weekend Thread

Another good thing about this game (assuming Bal'mer hangs on) is that the Yanx rally was kind of lame (seeing eye singles + 3 walks) only to have the O's come back with the kind of stroke-of-lightening bombs that the Yanx usually do to others.
Plus there's the part about how Captain Clutch made the first AND last out of that rally.

An Adam Bomb, from Adam Jones!

You're on the Mark, Reynolds!

I can't think of one for Wieters, Andino, or Davis. bah.

If there's a Moneyball II, here's hoping Brandon McCarthy gets a good role.

Re: OOTS: 9/6-9/9 Weekend Thread

And, once again, there's a tie back atop the AL East

There was also a (more or less) full house tonight in Camden on account of it being the dedication of a Cal Ripken statue night.
Sell-outs have been rare in recent years and, when they do have them (particularly in summer) it's often been more MFY fans than local ones.

Re: OOTS: 9/6-9/9 Weekend Thread

Bomber appearances earlier this season meant more Yankee gear than Oriole gear in the Camden Yards neighborhood as I left work. This evening, I didn't see a single Yankee hat. Had no idea they were in town. For serious.

Re: OOTS: 9/6-9/9 Weekend Thread

I think once you get out of the Memorial Day thru Labor Day part of the year the out-of-towners invasion calms down a bit, particularly for mid-week series.
There'll probably be some more 'inter-locking NY' sightings over the weekend but still fewer than if it were a month ago.

Re: OOTS: 9/6-9/9 Weekend Thread

Andin-o! into the second row!

no?

heard Sterling went with "Bombs away in Baltimore!"

Adam Jones apparently got pied. he also seemed to flip the bat a little. I wonder if Yankees fans will get a little whiny over that.

Re: OOTS: 9/6-9/9 Weekend Thread

Reynolds flipped the bat a lot on his second homer, and it made it over the wall by about three feet. I'm fully in favor of embarrassing the Yankees in any way possible, but that was close.

Oh, and how about "Weiters, there's a big fly in my soup."

Aha! and that sounds like perfect Sterling too.

Re: OOTS: 9/6-9/9 Weekend Thread

That's got two levels of clever. I don't think Sterling goes that deep.

Apparently, last night, there was a handsome, but naturally cheaply fabricated, giveaway of a little statuette replica of the Cal Ripken statue --- plaster painted to look like bronze.

I found three or four broken apart as a I got off the Marc train this morning --- arms and heads ripped off and left in a pile. I blame Yankee fans. I had half a mind to grab a bunch of pieces to glue back together, but I would have had to sit there placing the severed limbs against the stumps to make sure I had matching parts, and I didn't want to look like any more of a dork than I already am.
