Adam Rubin reports that the Mets are expected to go to Cleveland and Minnesota next year, along with the White Sox playing the Mets in Flushing for the first time ever.

A standing ovation for Robin Ventura when he brings out the lineup card?

ah. I assumed they were going to do the AL East. schedule's going to be interesting next year.

Coolness! Cleveland's not that far, and a nice stadium, too!

I'm going to Minnesota in November. I don't think that's the month the Mets are going though. boo.

Phoenix in August wasn't available?

at least that has baseball. tagging along with the wife for a work conference. This is what's led me to seeing Coors field in November, Busch 2-3, and Petco. (at least they've been baseball cities and I can take a tour..)

MFP schedule for next year (I don't know if this is real... I found it via the 506.com message board):

If true the Phillies get the Royals second series out, and home opener.
bmfc1 Aug 27 2012 08:32 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
I thought that the 4 games with Boston were interesting, two back-to-back series (two games in Boston and then two in Philadelphia). I doubt that FOX and ESPN will want the Mets-MFY games to be played on weekdays.
Ceetar Aug 27 2012 08:37 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
because Boston is the designated rival. silliness. you can probably fit four games over a wraparound weekend if the Mets/Yankees decide to go that way. luckily I don't think FOX or ESPN has much say in the schedule, only flexing games to night on Sunday/Saturday. I'm curious if when the divisions line up Al East versus NL East if we get 7 subway games though.
bmfc1 Aug 27 2012 08:42 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
You're right Ceetar--Perhaps Thursday-Monday v the MFYs, with the teams switching locales after Friday.
Ceetar Aug 27 2012 08:43 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
on the other hand, both the Yankees and Mets are dealing with 1000+ per game attendance drops. They might welcome the M-Thursday sellouts.
seawolf17 Aug 27 2012 10:25 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
Ugh. We're going to clinch the division in Philly next year. Nobody get stabbed, okay?

I have not been up to the new Twins ballpark yet...but it looks like the Mets visiting will give me a great reason to go.
seawolf17 Aug 27 2012 02:30 PM Re: 2013 Schedule |
Looking closer - the Phils have thirteen straight games against MIL-MIA-MIN between May and June. Neat.
Gwreck Aug 27 2012 03:00 PM Re: 2013 Schedule |

The picture is of the Phillies' 2013 schedule. Look at the games, count them up, make the appropriate logical deductions and you can figure out how the schedule is made.
I think you are confused. The Mets vs. Yankees games are the "rivalry" games. I have no idea what you mean by "the normal games against each other."
Doesn't look that way.
Ceetar Aug 27 2012 05:12 PM Re: 2013 Schedule |
the 'normal games' I mean the scheduled games when the AL East plays the NL East. You could potentially have 7 Subway Series games.
Gwreck Aug 27 2012 07:18 PM Re: 2013 Schedule |
Yes, that's what I acknowledged earlier. Presumably that problem has been deferred to 2015, which is when the rotation comes back around to the NL East-AL East matchup.
Ceetar Aug 27 2012 07:44 PM Re: 2013 Schedule |
you think it'll go East-West in 2014 then? (Astros!) I guess we arguably played the East this season, even if it wasn't part of the new scheduling stuff. I'm intrigued by all the new kinks in the schedule. Just pondering, but probably it's better to get an @ AL matchup in September. rosters expanded, more chance guys are nicked up a bit, can probably get the most use out of the DH spot then. Whereas in April, pitchers aren't going quite as long, so you'd be using a pinch hitter anyway. The home and home the Phillies have with Cleveland is just weird, and they actually have off both Monday and Thursday around one of the series. if the Phillies got Cleveland, wonder who we get the extra game with. We saw it some this year, but it creates opportunities for 6 games stretches in a city where you play the White Sox and Cubs back to back. you nkow the beat writers are going to salivate over that.

The MFPs won't be the only team opening with interleague play at home: the Reds open at home against the Angels.
Mets – Willets Point Aug 28 2012 09:40 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
Wait a second, there will be more than one interleague series happening at the same time?
Benjamin Grimm Aug 28 2012 09:44 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
Well, if each team is playing 20 interleague games, it won't be "far more" than is necessary.
Ceetar Aug 28 2012 09:46 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
well, 20*15 is 300 and a season is what.. 180 days or so? So yeah, most days will have 2 interleague games.
Mets – Willets Point Aug 28 2012 09:46 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
Gotcha, I thought "opening day" instead of "home opener," although even opening day is quite spread out these days.
batmagadanleadoff Aug 28 2012 09:49 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
The minimum # of interleague games each team has to play to make next year's schedule work is about 11 (162/15).
Frayed Knot Aug 28 2012 10:06 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
But we're not trying to have the minimum number of IL games because IL games are, by their very existence, far superior to all other games.
Gwreck Aug 28 2012 10:13 AM Re: 2013 Schedule |
The Phillies aren't opening with interleague play. Their first games are on the road at Atlanta. Their home opener is against the Royals.

So the Mets should play well right up to that second White Sox series and then start sucking if they maintain their current track record.
