Inspired most recently by the one Jason Bay sailed over the cut-off man* in Sunday’s game - although more generally by watching our outfielders throughout the season as a whole - this poll asks for your imput in order to estimate the percentage of throws from the NYM outfield which DID NOT do at least one of the following: 1) Widely miss the intended target 2) Massively sail over the head of the cut-off man (and would have even if we employed Yao Ming) 3) Get thrown to the wrong base (aka: Pulling a Pagan) 4) Hit the target but get mis-handled by the fielder (usually, but not always, the catcher) 5) Hit the target but just far too late to have any hope of nailing the runner 6) Reached the target but only after a minimum of 7 bounces 7) Reached the target while not only failing to get the intended runner but also allowed other runners to move up a base Honestly though, can anyone remember an opposing runner getting thrown out on the bases this year via a play that didn’t involve a force out or a caught stealing? * No damage done as it turned out, but still not a good throw

The Mets have 13 outfield assists, tied with the Giants for 28th in MLB this year. Only Miami (12) and San Diego (11) have fewer. Torres 5 Duda 3 Bay 2 Baxter 1 Hairston 1 Valdespin 1

Doesn't every manager, though? well pitcher hitting and sacrificing is better.. seems a lot like patching one hole to see three others burst out though...and further makes you miss Carlos Beltran. just guessing cold without stats, I went 2.1-3. It does happen, occasionally, so 1 in 50 or 100 seems too low. 1 in 33-45 though? perhaps right on the money. This probably isn't that much off league average though. It seems like almost never does a throw come in smoothly.

For what it's worth, Met outfielders have made 14 errors this season, only two of which are of the throwing variety. Other interesting factoid: sometime in the next 10 days, Andres Torres should take over the lead in outfield appearances for the 2012 Mets, despite starting the season and going on the DL after game one. Eight outfielders have been used by the team and all have spent time in the minors or on the DL.

Hmmm, all big outfields. Quite possibly that's not a coincidence. How much did TC talk about "fundamentals" and "playing the game the right way" in Spring Training? I think this is more about shitty arms than about instructions. I hear Ceetar is blaming it all on Warthen. for what it's worth, Met outfielders have made 14 errors this season, only two of which are of the throwing variety. I wonder how many "runner advanced on the throw" bases have been given away that a better throw (or, in certain cases, a non-throw) could have prevented even though no error was charged?

You COULD blame it on Goodwin, though, right? Taken together with the shit baserunning/Teufel calls... the stuff you can tie most directly to coaching-- outside of plate selectivity earlier this year-- has been pretty uniformly shitty, hasn't it?

And it wasn't just Duda.

I'd imagine it would take a heckuba coach to get Lucas Duda home from first on a triple. Still wonder if we haven't missed him, though. Our offensive colony collapse has been spectacular. Not like he or Nieuwie have hit much in Buffalo, though.

We can't even throw guys out at home on throws from 10 feet away!!!!
