Harry Parker?

I was sifting through some unposted UMDB memories this morning, and found one from June where a co-worker of Mets pitcher Harry Parker reported that Parker had died in late May. I can't find any online confirmation of this.

I couldn't locate anything. But i did a search on a SS death index site and found this. It looks like a match. RIP Harry.

Harry wasn't a bad pitcher. At least, he certainly wasn't in 1973, and that's as good a time as any and a better time than most to have your best season. It'd be a shame if his time passed unmarked.

That does appear to be a match. The guy who posted the news of Harry's death said he was working for the Commonwealth of Virgina at the time of his passing. I've written back to the person who posted the news to see if he could tell us what local paper might have carried his obituary.

In my pursuits, I visited Harry back in 2010. He lived at that time in Mechanicsville VA. Its just outside Richmond.

OT: While your at it catching up on your site, you should know that the picture you have for Omar Quintanilla is actually Jordany Valdespin.

Thanks. I just posted a new photo that's more Omar and less Jordany.

Very low-key player who contributed to the 73 pennant. We needed every game to get there, and he won eight of them. RIP Mr. Parker and thank you for your time.

Re: Harry Parker?

I'd say that, of the first fifty Mets I every pulled out of a pack of baseball cards, I got 15 Harry Parkers and 15 George Stones --- Mets virtually unknown to me except that they had square names that made them sound like senior citizens. How I resented them.

Years later, I looked at the yearbooks and realized 1973 wouldn't have happened without the two of them, and I made them retroactive favorites.

Can you do that? I mean, I was a kid.

Harry Parker 1973 is one of those players that happens when you're destined for good or great things.

He was my all-time 31 until Piazza came around and messed things up.

Is Nick Diunte one of our regular posters, or a lurker?
