One AB for the HBP Guy Stuck on One PA

Anybody remember Adam Greenberg? He was the Cub who came up for the first time in the majors on July 9, 2005, and was immediately plunked, suffering a concussion and thus ending his big league career.

Or did it? The guy behind Catching Hell is leading the charge to get Greenberg another shot -- or One At Bat, as the campaign is titled. Wrote about it here, follow within for links to the film of Adam's story and petition to get him his second first chance if so inclined.

And it will happen! Against the Mets:

Randomly turned on the TV, saw Greenberg on Today and then Samson appear via satellite with the offer (smarmy bastard if a fantastic gesture). Fitting it's the Marlins (if it can't be the Cubs). Fitting, too, it's against the Mets in the Sidd Finch sense. If R.A. is pitching, then it's perfect: guy who needed one more chance before he could find himself vs. guy who got one more chance and who knows what will happen to him?

The Marlins signed enough free agents last winter. What's one more now?

Hope he lines out of course.

It figures, that the Cubs management is too dumb to recognize a PR moment when one comes begging at their doorstep.

Interesting that he's facing R.A., who can be seen as something of a leveler, humbling the elite but giving the layman --- or the out-of-the-game-for-a-few-years-man --- a hacker's chance.

Or you can look at it that he's facing the pitcher least likely to cause damage were one to get away form him.
