Sammy Cahn on His Very Worst Day

Actual lyrics to the (otherwise award-winning) "Theme from The Odd Couple":
No matter where they go
They are known as the couple.
They're never seen alone
So they're known as the couple.

As I've indicated
They are never quite separated,
They are peas in a pod.
Don't you think that it's odd.

Their habits, I confess
None can guess with the couple.
If one says no it's yes
more or less, with the couple.

But they're laugh provoking;
Yet they really don't know they're joking.
Don't you find
When love is blind
It's kind of odd.[/list:u]

Lunchie's "Take a sloppy guy...." theme was much better.

Well, if you're talking about bad TV theme song lyrics, you can't top Star Trek.

Beyond
The rim of the star-light
My love
Is wand'ring in star-flight
I know
He'll find in star-clustered reaches
Love,
Strange love a star woman teaches.
I know
His journey ends never
His star trek
Will go on forever.
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember, remember me
.

They were written by Gene Roddenberry. They were never sung on the show, and basically were a ploy to screw Alexander Courage out of half his royalties.

More theme song trivia: Robert Altman never receive a cent from the TV version of M*A*S*H. His son Mike, however, did very well, since he had written the lyrics to the theme song, "Suicide is Painless." The lyrics were used in the movie, but not on the TV show. Mike was 14 when he wrote them.

Not bad, young Mike.

I've got to think Sammy Cahn has made more money off of that horrible and never-sung lyric than I'll make in my life. At least Mike Altman wrote something that passed muster for 20 seconds of a film.

When I was a kid and heard the "Bewitched" theme, I mentally heard: "Bewitched! Bewitched! I'm so God damned bewitched!"

I wasn't as far off as all that.
Bewitched!
Bewitched!
You've got me in your spell
Bewitched!
Bewitched!
You know your craft so well.

Before I knew what you were doing, I looked in your eyes
That brand of woo that you've been brewin' took me by surprise!

You witch!
You witch!
One thing that's for sure:
That stuff!
You pitch!
Just hasn't got a cure.

My heart was under lock and key, but somehow it got unhitched.
I never thought my heart could be had.
But now I'm caught and I'm kind of glad to be Bewitched.

Bewitched!
[/list:u]

Beats The Odd Couple lyrics, certainly. The Star Trek ones do also. I don't know how they didn't end up on one of Shatner's records.

Which one? Jeannie? Bewitched? Star Trek? I wouldn't pick any of those three. But this is fertile poll/contest material.
