Survivor, Starring Jeff Kent

Anyone? (minor spoilers in next graf)

Minutes into the first episode, they haven't even made camp yet, and Kent appears to blow out his knee. As his team "survives" the first week, they didn't elaborate, but imagine if they bothered to introduce it in the first 15 minutes of the season we haven't heard the last of it. He's trying to keep his identity a secret from his teammates but one of them has recognized him (which seems to me to be an obvious leverage for an alliance but she hasn't broached it yet).

Blair Warner is on a different team, and just one of her stupid teammates has made her yet.

I can tell already this season will be a battle between my interest in seeing Jeff Kent play Survivor and my tolerance for that irritating black-haired biotch with the huge fake yabbos.

Re: Survivor, Starring Jeff Kent

I watched only because of him....you know, it's still a good show.

Kent seems perfect for the show, he's a scheming fucker, playing like he's a good ole boy(Texas Farm), born and raised in Cali though.......and of course he is no stranger to weird injuries.

this is the 25th season?, hard to believe.

Re: Survivor, Starring Jeff Kent

They do two seasons a year, so the seasons pile up more quickly than with other shows. I made it through the first six "seasons" or so, but then I just couldn't stand it anymore.

If they sneak a few of his ex-teammates in there, I guarantee Kent won't survive.

i watched the first season, and haven't been able to scrub it off sufficiently to ever want to watch it again.
I don't even allow my kids to watch it, preferring them to watch torture porn or "Jersey Shore".

I watched last week only to see Lisa Welchsel. The little blonde who wanted cookies was a hoot

Kind of. I wish she'd get with the program and put on a bikini already.

Jeff Kent, sneaky bastard. I'd be surprised if he shared that encounter with Jonathan with the others.

Agree. If for no other reason than to see if she's hiding stretch marks or a gut.

I commented to my husband that the reason she feels like an outsider is because she had on too many clothes

I would have used "Lisa Welchel" and "cookies" differently in the same sentence.

Minor spoliers:

The tribes merged and Jeff Kent made the curious move of jumping from the head role on his alliance to join the "power" alliance, but on the bottom. This is because he's scared of the returning guys winning. Innnnteresting.

Revisiting.
Thank god that SOB Kent and the black haired biotch are gone. Though seeing them both last night made me ill.

Still only 2 people know who Blair is, one of whom is gonna have her top off any second now. Gotta say I still don't get what the heck she is fretting over.

Is there any particular reason why Abi doesn't have to DO anything? She is good at griping, I'll say that for her.

Re: Survivor, Starring Jeff Kent

Did you watch until the end? Turns out after all that energy Blair Warner wasted, she didn't flip on the assholes, but Skupin did. I said before that Abi is the dumbest player since Dreamz but I might have to amend that. She's dumber, and probably more worthless in that Dreamz at least was a strong physical player and also likably stupid.

Kent was a jerk but was one of the more interesting guys. Doesn;t Penner remind you of Bobby Valentine? He's got that same way of expressing confidence in his voice that makes people hate him. But he's intelligent and a good competitor too.

I got Malcolm winning the $$, with the muscular girl and perhaps Penner as co-finalists.

Re: Survivor, Starring Jeff Kent

Yes!!! That's who that voice reminds me of! Thank you!

I commented to my husband last night "why do they make poor Lisa, who is probably pushing 50, do some of this stuff when Abi looks like she might at least have more stamina?" Well, maybe not in those exact words.
Good for Lisa though, she may be somewhat slow at stuff but she toughs it out and does it.

I like your final three, Malcolm reminds me of my son, Denise of one of my friends that I used to work with and Penner is creepy but you're probably right.

My husband is betting Lisa bows out because she can't take the mental strain of being mean, lol...I would have the same problem...

Re: Survivor, Starring Jeff Kent

This was the first reality she's shown tonight. There are some cultural differences there, for sure, although the episode overplayed them. I'm sure Abi's well-liked by her friends at home. But these are not her friends from home. This is a TV show. And "TV Abi" is completely unlikeable.

That was uncool to vote off that kid. To a degree its his own fault for not moving to effect things himself sooner, and for not winning immunity. But still, all of them look a little dirty now.

Re: Survivor, Starring Jeff Kent

Yeah if I were slim and young and handsome.

I'm kind of mad at Survivor for this trend toward casting people precisely because they're aggressively antisocial idiots (Abi, the fat guy from last night, and from next week's sneak preview, Brandon). I mean, it's obvious all three are/were mentally ill, severely even. The Specialist is insane too but harmlessly so. I know they do it for drama but it's really overwhelming and dominates the whole storyline to the point where the season just sucks so far.

That said, I'll watch to see if Cochran can take it all.

Re: Survivor, Starring Jeff Kent

You've got a good point. I honestly still think it's the best show on television. You could do sociological studies on it. But they do overthink themselves sometimes, although I also wonder if sometimes people you think will hack it out there (Shamar) just go soft.

Brandon never would have made it on the show if it wasn't for his uncle, because he's just not interesting at all.

How can last night be discussed without tiny island superman, and his efforts to improve camp while simultaneously scoring some sexy time with the Favorites tribe women?

My husband and I discussed what could you do if you had someone like Brandon around. You don't want your team to lose just so you could vote him off.

Re: Survivor, Starring Jeff Kent

Now that was a great tribal council. Overcoming a 7-3 deficit and destabilizing the dominant group by taking out its arrogant leader. Cochran is right when he said votes changing at tribal is so rare; only Eric's did tonight and he barely has a clue any night.

Well told by CBS since we didn't know whether that was really a "find" by Malcom or a plant of his existing idol for show.

Really really pissed about Brenda. Dawn can kiss my ass.

I am now hoping that Eric wins, or (god forbid but who else?) Eddie. Christ if it came down to it Sherri would be better than Dawn or Cochrane.

Fair enough. I've always been fascinated by the psychology/sociology of it. If I was a little more academic, I'd be Cochran; I don't have the time or the focus to write a graduate thesis about the show, but I wish I could.

Re: Survivor, Starring Jeff Kent

Hats off to Cochrane, who played a very good game and got lucky too, who knows where he'd have been without winning 2 challenge advantages and seeing his only credible opponent go out due to health reasons.

There was a couple of great moments this year but it wasn't my favorite season by a long shot. Too much bullshit from the crazies at the start and the elimination drama peaked too soon. Plus a lot of gimmicky stuff.
