IST - Orioles vs. Opponent

Ichiro hits an RBI double but is promptly thrown out stealing third.

Orioles seem to have a very good crowd, despite the two hour rain delay.

Between the introduction of the Nats and the cutbacks in newspaper budgets over the last decade, coverage of the Orioles by the WP got tossed out the window a few years back.
Plus, since it was a Monday between the months of August and December, there's the obligatory 36 pages of Redskins coverage that tends to squeeze out other stories. Frankly I'm surprised they found room for Nats coverage.

I wanted him to make the last out on a liner to an Oriole third baseman, so I could honor their Hall Of Famer by saying, "Put it in the Brooks".

That sounds like it may have been a too-late-for-this-edition problem due to the later start plus the rain delay. Because, while the Post doesn't cover the Orioles beat anymore, its not like they go out of the way to ignore them in some sort of break-up with your ex rivalry, and they generally at least run wire service reports or occasionally scoop up (hopefully after paying for it) an article from the Baltimore Sun.

I was half joking when I made reference during that last inning to the opponents losing and their fans blaming it all on ARod as a result being the best of all outcomes, but my brief listen to Steve Somers after the game found him doing a monolog on just that. Why is the "Lightening Rod" still hitting 3rd?, etc.
Of course the Schmoozer is good at doing stuff like that in order to ensure he'll have callers lining-up to chime in as soon as he returns from the first commercial break, but I have no doubt that would have been the most popular topic anyway.

OK, so this Miguel Gonzalez guy has shut down the Yanx the whole game except for the "dramatic" long fly that should have been caught.

Do you guys remember when Ibanez was debated on the forums as a potential Mets FA acquisition?

As I recall it the so-called seamheads were strongly against such an investment but don;t recall the argument (or the year). It would have been the 2000-01 offseason or perhaps the 2002-03.

I remember it [the Ibanez talk].
He was one of those guys seemingly "destined" to be a Met for a while.

I don't think it was as early as you say. For a couple years there were talks about trades with Seattle and then again prior to his FA signing w/Philly but that Philly deal was 2009 so I think most of the talk was around '05 and later.
He was always a good though somewhat anonymous player out in Seattle but I also imagined the outcry if Omar had signed or traded for a mid-30s guy with a Spanish name.

And I'm sure someone on (or claiming to speak for) the surviving team will complain about the lack of an off-day between rounds, and that someone at MLB will promise this won't happen in the future. But I don't have any problem with it. It's not like you're suddenly putting teams & players through some kind of pace that is over and above what they do during the regular season. Play a series, jump on a plane, play the next day in the next city - and in this case they will have only played 3 days since the last day off. It's not a hardship and if it helps you avoid November then it's a win all around as far as I'm concerned.

Yup.
We were talking about the 2009 set-up in another thread yesterday so I looked it up last night: 15 games played by the Yanx (out of a possible 19) spread out over 31 days
THAT is making the post-season follow a totally different pattern than the regular. Having back-to-back games with first-pitch times separated by approx 26 hours which may or may not be in a different city within the same time-zone is most definitely not unusual or a hardship.

That's something that won't happen because of TV.
We may think of these games as sporting contests but the networks view them as programming to be carefully placed so as to fill specific time-slots, maximize viewership, and promo that networks upcoming events.

That's actually a good day-of showing, there were 12k available when I woke up, as low as $15.
