How Biased Is Your Announcer?

Wall Street Journal looks at the question, comes up with their criteria (small-sampled and binary, certainly), and the Mets booth comes out on top, or bottom or something.

Tied with YES? Seriously? How do you brag about that?

I saw this story and I was stunned about YES, but then again, I've never actually watched a game on YES, so I don't know how homery they are.

"we" and "our" and "us" is the determinant for announcer bias? we've got a big problem here.

We've got a problem? Get over yourself, Homer McPoster.

Yeah, that's a little overbroad. That's why I described the criteria as "binary." I would suggest a 10-point scale, where "we," "us," and "our" get a 2 and an enthusastic "Let's go, Mets." gets an 8.

Ten, of course, would be, "Rawja Clemens is in Jawj's box and Rawja is coming back! Oh my goodness gracious of all the dramatic things!!"

Re: How Biased Is Your Announcer?

Counting up uses of 'us' we' 'them' is about the last criteria I'd use for determining home-team bias.
I don't even really mind so much when announcers come across as fans of their team (to a point anyway, Hawk Harrelson is way over the top) as long as they don't try to tell me that black is white while I'm watching a game.

So, no Michael Kay, it's NOT an established fact that when Derek Jeter makes outs in a tight spot it's just one of those things while it's because of the tight spot when other do it.
And, no, Bob Carpenter, the entire Nationals infield does NOT deserve Gold Gloves this year.
and yadda yadda.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, though, I agree that the White Sox team is definitely the most biased. They're unabashed cheerleaders.

Oh yeah, I think we're all agreed. This one-day rough survey gives us meaningful information, just not as definitive as we might likey.,

It's a scale of one to ten, for how moist Suzie Waldman's granny panties are about your team. The slushier the better.

Tony Kornheiser on the Nationals TV announcers: it's not just that the Nationals announcers are being paid by the team, it's like the owner is standing there handing them cash.
