Depends on the year, usually just 4-8 deep. Hardly ever double digits like it is with the MVP voting.

We get a few more

7th in the 1994 voting.

6th in 1998 (this is his 1999 card due to no Al Leiter as a Met card in the 1998 Topps base)

3rd in 2008

3rd in 1990

4th in 1986, the Mets had 4 pitchers receive votes that year!

3rd in 1994. And we have all of the Mets top three finishes

7th, tied with Doc, in the 1986 vote

5th in that 1986 vote

Re: Another fun pitching related quiz

Nope to Mike Hampton! Leiter's 1998 was the last time a Met would garner a CY vote until this guy, well after the Valentine era was over.

And the only other guy is a well regarded 2nd-3rd starter Met whom probably got swept up in a very Metly voting year.

A legendary bad year for Topps. And the printing made it worse. If you can get a good, crisp card, it's not as horrible. But it was so bad, and the competition kicked up, forcing the company to dramatically improve the quality the next couple years.

Those bastards!
Casually listening to the news on WCBS radio this week.
An ad came on for a Yankee breakfast.
I heard yadda, yadda, yadda, Yankee Legend Doc Gooden!!!
Blasphemy.
Talk about truth in advertising.
I'm writing to the FCC.
What hubris.

I'll do you one better. It was for a Sprint PCS store appearance so they couldn't use the term MFY (of course with MF not included), but there was a local radio ad touting an appearance by...it was either New York Baseball legend or New York Baseball fan favorite Jeff Weaver.

I least I think it was Weaver, it was one of those big ticket items that the MFers brought in that severely underperformed in the 2002-2005 time frame. It wasn't a future HOFer/borderline HOFer like Brown or Johnson though, either way clear case of hubris and usual advertising hyperbole!

Re: Another fun pitching related quiz

I was NOT one better. It was one worse. Far, far worse.
The Weaver thing may be typical ad-man hype.
But it does not fly in the face of fans of the other team in the same market, for whom Gooden truly WAS a legend.
