Mets Lasts Quiz

OK, compiling the Firsts Quiz was a lot of fun, so I thought I'd assemble a 'Lasts' quiz. Of course, some are permanent lasts, provided the Polo Grounds is not rebuilt, and others are really just most recent, subject to change. I'll leave this up for a few hours. Thanks once again to the definitive UMDB not only for answers, but for inspiring questions as I browsed the site. Ben Grimm, you are the man-like-creature.

Mike Hampton was the last Met to pitch a postseason complete game.
|
Swan Swan H Oct 15 2012 02:44 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
Hampton is correct. Nice, Gwreck.

Gwreck Oct 15 2012 02:45 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
Is this one answer per person? Or do you want a whole list of guesses for each question?

Last Met to homer at the Polo Grounds
|
Swan Swan H Oct 15 2012 02:47 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
I think if folks answer one or a few we'll get more participation, so let's do that.

Gwreck Oct 15 2012 02:48 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
Last win vs. the White Sox was Pedro Astacio.

Gwreck on a Gwroll with three more. Oly didn't play them all, but he did hit the magic 162 in 1999.

Last Met to homer at the Polo Grounds Duke Snider

Oops, I posted the above before I saw the reply that said we should only guess one at a time. Sorry.

Rickey's wrong anyway, it's Alomar. at the end of the..2003? season.

No problem - as many guesses as you like is fine.

Oh boo, "as a coach" isn't a trick question?

Last Met to homer against the Montreal Expos (hint – he was the catcher)
|
Gwreck Oct 15 2012 02:57 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
Last hit in the postseason was Jose Valentin.

And btw, Tom Seaver was wearing a Mets jersey on Opening Day of Citi Field in 2009.

'In uniform' is code for 'not necessarily a player.'

The last Met to lead team in hits (not Reyes or Wright) is also a trick question. Didn't Angel Pagan have more hits than David during one of the years that Reyes was hurt?
|
Swan Swan H Oct 15 2012 03:05 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
Yup - in 2010 Pagan had 168, Wright 166, Reyes 159.
|
Swan Swan H Oct 15 2012 03:12 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
Zeile is also correct - that was his one game back behind the plate.
|
Gwreck Oct 15 2012 03:17 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
I am positive about how that inning unfolded. Unless I reversed the order that Valentin and Chavez batted.
|
Swan Swan H Oct 15 2012 03:21 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
That's it. Valentin (1b) - Chavez (1b) - Floyd (K) -Reyes (8) - LoDuca (BB).

Allow me to submit Jason Anderson for consideration.
|
Swan Swan H Oct 15 2012 05:43 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
Seawolf as hot as his school's football team. Kingman led the NL in 1981 and 1982.

Anderson was in 2003, Heredia in 2004.

Gilkeyvision.

Bernard is one of the other three. Hojo and Fonzie are the other two.

Chad Ochoseis Oct 15 2012 06:55 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
Piazza with the .600 slugging percentage, McReynolds with the doubles?
|
Swan Swan H Oct 15 2012 07:03 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
You got one, Chad. Piazza slugged .614 in 2000. Ben Grimm guessed Beltran, who just missed in 2006 (.594 - three more TB and he's at exactly .600)

Swan Swan H Oct 15 2012 07:45 PM Re: Mets Lasts Quiz |
OK, time to put this one to bed.
