In this Dreamworks, Jay Baruchel (Knocked Up, Tropic Thunder, "Undeclared") voices Hiccup, the inventive-but-not-so-alpha-male son of a Viking chief, who aims to become a dragonslayer in order to prove his worth to the tribe and his chagrined father (Gerard Butler). But what if that's not where his destiny lies?
Watched it with YoungerPooper and her cousin over Thanksgiving weekend... and was very pleasantly surprised. The action sequences were gorgeous and seamless, and the comedy was warm, funny and-- unlike the dozens of shlocky, shrieking-pop-culture-parody Sons-of-Shrek that have filled the Children's bin in recent years-- timeless. And the script's emotional moments may tread familiar thematic ground, but... well... they're shockingly affecting and resonant. It's a Best-Animated-Feature-Not-From-Pixar shortlister, and maybe your winner of the last few years there.
In your opinion... am I Leif-ing anything out?
