For Jerseyans with some free time this afternoon... a certain Buckner-shaming, World-Series-winning speedster will be signing autographs at the Lord & Taylor store in Westfield. (Kristi Yamaguchi also making an appearance.)

Can't get to Westfield this evening. Damn. My streak of days where I have not actually met a real live Met is at 17,490 and counting.

AND BE SHAMED LIKE WE HAVE SHAMED "PHILLIES GUY IN MICHIGAN."

(Full disclosure: I own a Red Sox "RICE 14" shirt.)

You shoulda worn a '92 Kristi Yamaguchi throwback dress instead of that Sox hoodie...

Re: Free Mookie With Purchase

The Sox hoodie was a long-ago-borrow-and-hell-just-keep-it-at-this-point from a Sox fan friend, and it was laundry day. When I left the house for my aunt's in NJ, I:

A) ... had two choices for hoodie, one of which was the Sox one (which, by the way, I generally never wear); the other was a slightly-uncomfortable pullover hoodie; as I would be going into and out of my aunt's house (generally a toasty 78-80 degrees) a number of times during the day, I leaned strongly against-- and eventually eschewed-- the pullover.

B) ... had no idea about the Lord and Taylor thing.

But, yeah, all excuses aside... I'm a moron. But I'm a moron who's touched Mookie, and that's what's important.

Damn. I live a mile away and never knew.

Of course, I probably wouldn't have gone anyway. I have the game on DVD and I'm not much of an autograph hound. I have Willie Mays' autograph, and all others pale in comparison.
