Wifey Watch 2013

Gotta get an early drop on the season in order to be ready for spring training. Lotta wheeling and dealing to come, but this is what we've got so far. Any help would be appreciated.

Niese is engaged? Hell, we tried to get Jason Pridie something, Niese is definitely more relevant. Where's he registered?

Bed, Bath, and Beyond, of course. Your feelings may differ, but I think the future Mrs. Niese has a distressingly bland taste for blah colors. Smokey browns and flat ashy blacks. Where's the blue and orange, Leah?! They gave your man a long-term contract before his time!

But, they were registered for, Angry Birds Asst, which was under food. (and purchased or I so would've done it already) So kudos to that. (I registered for a Godiva candy bar and a bottle of water at Macy's myself. those scanners scan EVERYTHING in the store)

Maegan and Bobby will make their home in Salisbury.

You can still get 'em the snowflake napkin holder at Crate & B, or perhaps the modular dishware or cocktail shaker at Macy's.

Re: Wifey Watch 2013

Important to note in this crazy-assed photo is that she's wearing a badge that says "A Night with Ike Davis: VIP" Also notable is that she's surrrounded by not one, not two, but three flannel-flying young men.

Which reminds me of something I noted in the photo I cropped Ike's huggy-huggy shot: Ike --- despite being a big-shot big-leaguer and the son of a big-shot big-leaguer --- is not particular about the class of party he will rock. Drinking from the a plastic cup in the unrenovated kitchen of a grad student group home? Oh, yeah, he's all over that.

Daddy Ron would do well to warn him about the age of the young ladies he parties with, however.

(Channeling Fman) What's important is not the kind of cup he drinks from, but the size bra cup she wears.

OK, we're beginning the heavy transactional portion of our spousal offseason.

Kristen Bay, we hardly knew ya. Kristen and Jason leave us as the parents of two kids, one of which was born in New York City during his Met tenure. The couple took up residence in Larchmont during the baseball season.

Megan Burke joins us as a self-made woman. In fact, Greg relocated to be near her during the offseason, moving to the Baltimore area where she ran a pretzel franchise.

Those last bunch will probably be tricky. (and you wrote 2015, not 2013 Mets)

I should probably create a 'fake' Facebook account and just friend everyone. Keep tabs on what everyone's up to. I'd say that's creepy but there are a couple of Mets fans that are friends with all the, particularly the minors, players. But one's legitimately their friend and the others are teenage girls so that seems less creepy.

A special welcome back --- to the shores of St. Lucie at least --- to Rebecca Nickeas. Rebecca, you may recall, is the young lady who was stood up for at her wedding by the able and affectionate Blondie, Curly, Pearlie, Squinty, and Blackie.

Tracey lives in Queens and even a month before her wedding is helping out Sandy victims

Today I was with another volunteer in the Far Rockaways. As we drove over sand dunes in the streets, it felt like an unplowed road in a Buffalo blizzard, with snow drifts up the sides of houses. But it's not snow. It's sand. And it's not going to melt away. And on every street there was the entire contents of peoples' homes in garbage piles on the sidewalk. Rubble everywhere. Shells of burned out bldgs, and people huddled over garbage can fires. People need help. There is no power, water, or food. They need diapers and water and blankets and food. ... and they were also incredibly thankful for a hug and a smile, and the knowledge that people cared.

If you can help, there is a fabulous grass roots effort happening from local residents. I met these amazing people today. Help if you can. People are struggling. They need belief in the human spirit...

so, Bixler. His girlfriend is Jennifer R. Lawrence (not the actress). Lives in Sandusky, OH which is where his parents live as well.

Still not finding much more though.

Jennifer seems to be from Texas, most recently Houston (2007). Also mixed in is a Jessica Bixler who I can't figure out if it's a sister or what not, or maybe that's the wife and Jen is her sister. The research suggests it's Jennifer that lives at the same address as Brian though.

Confusing.

Googling, I found Jennifer's pinterest page. well, a pinterest page. it's a common name. This one's friends with a Jessica Bixler though.

This doesn't particularly look like Brian though. it's not horribly off, but mostly the eyebrows.

I'll admit, even the guys before and after pics are incredible!

On a side note, I am encouraged by the lives this business is changing. Both men and women are able to work part time from home and see their goals become reality. It's pretty cool. Our offseason family time is valuable so I like that they don't ask her to do parties and I don't have to lug a bunch of products across the country since they don't ask you to stock inventory.

I'll get back to baseball soon, but if you or anyone you know may be interested in joining her or using the product you can contact her at

Feel free to check out her website and view the products, but contact her first to get 10% off and free shipping.

Josh Satin, not on the 40 man, is now engaged.

Justin Turner is apparently dating someone, and defriended many of his female 'friends' on facebook as a result.

David Wright supposedly was still with Molly Beers as recently as this summer.

It's an interesting lesson in cyber security though. Not just security, but simply, information. Nothing particularly insecure about knowing Murphy lined the hallway with candles for when his girlfriend got home and was waiting in the bedroom with the ring. But knowing exactly where his reception is, and knowing how easy it is to crash a wedding particularly during a cocktail hour? I imagine this is how the paparazzi do it. They'd be on a plane to Jacksonville right now ready to crash and take pictures.

Re: Wifey Watch 2013

Wright, who already had financial security, did not splurge in celebration, unless you count the engagement ring he soon thereafter gave to fiancée Molly Beers, a model to whom the third baseman proposed later in the month in his native Virginia.

Wright noted he comes from a "pretty conservative family." His father, Rhon, is an assistant police chief in Norfolk, Va. His mother, Elisa, is a school aide. At Christmas, his modest purchase for his parents was matching Beach Cruiser bikes.

"I don't know if that's glamorous, but that's what they wanted," Wright said. "So that's what they got."

Wright said having his baseball career settled and proposing to Beers weeks later was coincidence.

"Probably for the same reason as anyone else does," Wright said about becoming engaged. "I'd like to think I'm a little more mature and wiser than I was nine, 10 years ago. It just seemed like a nice fit. We've known each other for long enough to know each other pretty well."

They apparently still have to learn a little more about each other, though.

Asked about his fiancée's modeling career, he confessed: "To be honest with you, I don't really know what she does. I think it's just mostly commercials and some print stuff."

Any particular product?

"I've got no idea," Wright said. "No idea."

Andrew Keh, New York Times wrote:

There Are Rings in Mets’ Future
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Before the Mets opened spring training this month, half a dozen of their players stopped playing the field.

Most of the time, it takes an awkward hop to drop a ballplayer to one knee. But in a mass move toward matrimony, six Mets proposed to their significant others before arriving here. The team’s fanciful chase for championship rings was preceded this season by a much more realistic search for engagement gold and diamonds.

"Well, we got together and all planned to do it over the same off-season," deadpanned David Wright, 30, who popped the question to his longtime girlfriend, Molly, over the Christmas holidays. As Wright jokingly noted, the timing of the engagements did make them seem prearranged. But the extent of the marriage bug’s infectiousness became clear only when the half-dozen players engaged in small talk at the start of camp.

Outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis, 25, laughed while describing a scene that was repeated several times as players arrived from around the country. "It was like, ‘Oh, yeah, I got engaged.’ ‘You, too? So did so and so, and so and so, and so and so. Oh, yeah, and so and so, too!’ "

Wright’s engagement was covered by news outlets and gossip pages this winter; the others were under the radar.

For the record, Nieuwenhuis proposed on the beach to his girlfriend, Bethany, on Feb. 1, a couple of days after Zach Lutz, a 26-year-old infielder, and his girlfriend, Lindsay, became engaged. Reese Havens, a 26-year-old second baseman, popped the question to his girlfriend, Leigh, on Dec. 29 while sailing his family’s boat. And Josh Satin, a 28-year-old infielder, proposed to his girlfriend, Allyson, the day before Thanksgiving.

"It would have been a big elephant in the room," Satin said laughingly of waiting until the holiday. "Twenty-five people were going to be there. We knew we had to get it done."

The marital mood was not confined to homegrown Mets. Anthony Recker, 29, who was claimed by the Mets in October as a possible backup catcher, arrived in camp newly engaged, too, having proposed to his girlfriend, Kelly, late in the 2012 season.

As each of the players noted, the engagement run was largely because of their schedules. Baseball requires on-the-job commitment for nine months, often relegating some of life’s major moments to the brief time between seasons. As a result, the proliferation of Mets engagements this winter will mean a glut of weddings next winter. But Recker has learned not to let baseball permeate his life too much.

"We know someone with the Chicago Cubs who just got engaged, had his engagement pictures taken at Wrigley Field, and then he got designated for assignment," he said. "It’s not worth it. Don’t even go there. Keep baseball out of it."

As a team, the young Mets are going through a transitional phase, and the six newly engaged players -- only two of whom, Wright and Nieuwenhuis, are assured of spots on the roster -- are not the only ones experiencing what could be termed big life moments. Reliever Josh Edgin, 26, and his wife are expecting their first child next month. Outfielder Mike Baxter, 28, and his wife are due to have their first in June. Starter Jon Niese married this winter, as did second baseman Daniel Murphy.

Murphy, 27, was happy to impart some wisdom to his teammates. Communication was the key to marital success, he said, as were gestures, even if only symbolic, to show you were invested in planning the wedding.

Murphy said his engaged teammates should consider themselves lucky. "The profession is a madhouse," he said, gesturing toward some clubhouse commotion. "You’ve got to find that special woman."

Amid the marriage talk, the players joked about who could be next. "We didn’t get him this time," Nieuwenhuis said, looking at outfielder Lucas Duda, 27, who came up through the minors with much of the group. Lutz said Duda would be a member of his wedding party but had no insight on whether there might be any additional pressure for him to marry as well.

"Duda’s real quiet," Lutz said, laughing. "You never know with Duda."

Wright noted that he attended four baseball weddings this winter in three states and the Turks and Caicos Islands. He could not attend Niese’s wedding because it fell on the same weekend as his annual charity event.

"I called it the Winter of Weddings," Wright said, laughing. Another such winter awaits after the 2013 season.

As for championship rings, that may take a while.

We did that a couple of years ago. It's a blast. My wife and I went onto two of the balconies(?) and took pictures of each other. It was incredible looking down at the city from that vantage point.

Re: Wifey Watch 2013

The current Mets Insider airing intermittently over the next two weeks on SNY is Wifeypalooza. Interviews with Missuses Hefner, Hawkins, Rice, Atchison and Murphy. Highlights:

--The wifey corps was like Murphette's "other bridesmaids" what with the way they did some necessary thing to her wedding dress. Where the hell were her real bridesmaids? Hittin' on Justin Turner?

--You're never without a babysitter, claims La Hef.

--Both Mrs. Murph and Mrs. Rice played college softball so they know just what it's like out there on the diamond.

--Dramatic music swelled when the Atchisons discussed their daughter being born with forearms that weren't quite as long as they were supposed to be and the Hefners raised funds for Oklahoma after the tornadoes.

--Hawk has been married since 1997 but has a son who's playing college basketball already (wasn't clear whether the lad is a prodigy or he didn't wait for wedlock to achieve paternity the way he waited to be in the majors to marry the present Mrs. H.)

--They all pose happily for Wifey team pictures but you know the hair and fingernails fly when the camera is put away. (Ugly stereotype -- perhaps they're all really the best of friends, though my own wifey wondered "If they're as close as they say, how come they weren't all interviewed together?")

Not seen on TV: Yesterday when Mr. & Mrs. Met and their handlers made the pregame rounds on field level, the regular folks of all ages cleared them a path and squealed with delight. They have supplanted Jerry Seinfeld's airport cart people as Our Royalty.
