Official launch of my new Mets book today. The initial volume of The Happiest Recap — First Base (1962-1973) — is available on Amazon right now in paperback; it covers 127 Mets wins, runs 224 pages and sells for $16.95. We’ll have information regarding Kindle and other eBook availability shortly. The three succeeding volumes — Second Base (1974-1986); Third Base (1987-1999) and Home (2000 & Beyond) — are planned to follow in 2013. FYI, book signing/schmoozing event set for Foley's on 33rd (between 5th and 6th) on Sat. 12/15, 1-4 PM. H/T themetfairy for applying her organizing ethos to the occasion and even sneaking my birthday, which comes 16 days later, onto the program.

Greg was a guest on the Dino Costa Show last night on Sirius XM's "Mad Dog Radio." If you have Sirius XM and pay for online listening, you can listen to the show via the "on demand" feature and advance to about the 1:50 mark. It's a terrific interview.

From the Member Promotion thread, if I may, since it's Metsian as much as me: I'll be reading from and discussing The Happiest Recap at the Varsity Letters sports literature series downtown Thursday night (5/9). The place is Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker St., between Thompson and Sullivan (adjacent to several subway lines). I'm on the bill with the guy who wrote the book revealing Lenny Dykstra is not the All-American Boy. May be another speaker as well. More such talk, handsomely illustrated, this time with Alex Belth of Bronx Banter, the only man who could use "pernt" for point unironically and have it come off as literary. Our fandom (anybody’s fandom, really) is so much more than the agreed-upon milestones. It’s the big inning we’re all talking about the next morning or the rookie who came up to pitch a shutout and then disappeared or the quirky game where all 17 hits were singles. It’s firsts and lasts and lots of in-betweens. It’s the championships and superstars, too, of course, but it’s also the moments of contention that fizzled and the stage being set for great things and the residual fumes on the other side of those great things and the games and players who got us through the rough times. It’s everything, if you’re a steadfast fan of a team.

Mets-related, so here, too: Wednesday night, June 26, 7 PM, I'll be discussing The Happiest Recap at the fabulous Bergino Baseball Clubhouse, E. 11th St. between Broadway and University Place. Mets-White Sox on the relatively big screen afterwards. Hope to see some of you.
