Fun with Google Maps

I discovered this by accident yesterday:

Go to Google Maps. Get Directions. Type in a starting point and destination.
Hit the Blue Get Directions button. Hit the Light Blue 2D or 3D button.

Happy Trails!

don't see it, do you have the Google Earth browser plug-in installed?

Re: Fun with Google Maps

You might have to...I have Google search as my home page, and Google maps is one of the options.

The little light blue boxes might be hard to spot at first til you get used to where they are, down by the typed directions.

Is nobody but Ceeter trying this or doesn't it work for you either?

I put in my address and the same address in NYC and took a little road trip!

It's fun!

Re: Fun with Google Maps

It took me a minute to find the 3D box also (it isn't light blue on mine) but, yeah, once you try it it is pretty cool. That it gives you a bit of an indication of changes in elevation as you go is great for bikers.
Would be even cooler IMO if each line in the step-by-step directions would light up or otherwise somehow indicate where you are in the process as the streets you're on or are crossing aren't always easy to read as you go.

Agree 100% that is what I was thinking last night.

Last night I drove to Buffalo NY and back and was astounded at the lack of gas stations, lol...

I'd also like to vary the speed of the thing.

isn't it funny how we find something that we never thought would be possible ten years ago much less so easily available and our first thoughts immediately race to what it doesn't do?

Re: Fun with Google Maps

My husband and I were doing the same thing last night...

It's kinda neat though how you can plan ahead. It makes it all look so easy!

It's a fun way to take a trip in 10 minutes, that's for sure. And if there's no gas stations along the way, oh well :)

I'll try at home.

Re: Fun with Google Maps

The step-by-step instructions actually do light up as the indicator hits each turn or change of road - it's fairly light on my system so I barely noticed it, but it's there.

Go to Google Maps and make sure you select WALKING directions... set your starting point as "The Shire" and your destination as "Mordor"

One does not simply walk into Mordor? LOL
