Hey, time is getting tight so I came up with ridiculous new rules to make this year's championship easier and allow everyone to participate without having to wait their turn in a lengthy draft.

It is a multipart take-home [crossout]25[/crossout]30-question assignment that you may begin anytime but is due and may not be edited after next Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 12 noon. I believe the countdown begins around that time. Post your answers to all questions in one reply 1-25 as shown. You may want to refer to the 2011 countdown here: [url]http://www.q1043.com/common/top_songs/2011.html (database is also searchable, but I can't vouch for its accuracy). Good luck!

Predict the top 10 songs in the countdown, in order. One point for every song in the top 10, and 3 bonus points for every song in its proper slot in the top 10

Yeah, Swanny, you did it right. I was imagining my formatting of that question would allow for easy correcting but its awkward.

Will amend 22 to say "Rank these artists by the total number of songs they place in the countdown, most to least: Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin. Just the order not the number."

i was on the q1043 site trying to research my answers, namely the what's the highest rank for a given band, (trying to find a trend in the noisy noisy data) and after i put in styx, i saw listings for 2012. i didn't notice the 2012 listings for the doobies, gnr, or the byrds, so either i'm blind, or they put it up right when i was looking. i tehn had to stop using hte artist search feature as i tried to honestly fill out my scoresheet, admittedly a tad belatedly.

I have serious doubts as to the integrity of the entire Top 1043 concept. As we discovered last year (or maybe the year before) the 2007 list we used for that controversial championship contest in 2010 was replaced at some point by another list with a different countdown.

I too noticed there was some 2012 dates in songs when I filled mine out but ignored them and hoped nobody would notice. Then while running last night I had the station on and they were still trolling for votes to determine the order. It's effed up. I suppose we should wait till the weekend is over to declare a winner but let's agree to lock the submissions up now. If somebody wants to I suppose they can grade our papers now.

Carol Miller should be ashamed.

We're using a list to grade? I thought JCL sat by his radio all weekend with printouts in front of him, grading us on the fly. I'm so disillusioned with the whole process now.

The artist listings are pretty messed up as well. Different listings for 'Who' and 'The Who,' for example, as well as separate listings for songs resulting from typos.

Woke up to "Goodbye Stranger" this morning. Funny to find it so low.

And "Heartbreaker" is a real upset. I don't know if you've heard the mashup "ABCBreaker" from a few years ago but it's still the bomb. I'm not a mashup nut, but I'm sad the Jacksons and Zep never actually did this.

I have no idea how many votes it takes to get a song to #897 on the list - it can't take many - but if I turned on a station that advertised itself as 'Classic Rock' I'd be surprised to hear any of these. Of course, being voted onto this list doesn't mean that the station actually plays these songs - I also saw some Elvis and Chuck Berry on the list, and I doubt they're played on this station on any regular basis.

People got lazy, including the station which interfered with the integrity of the contest by posting the results when they were still trolling for votes. Also I was away for the Holiday so couldn't pbp.

Heard some of the top 30 on the drive home. Will endeavor to score the contest when I get a minute.
