Liquidation

Hostess after a Chapter 11 filing earlier this year and an employee walkout last month, announces plans to liquidate.

Buyer's market for all their best players.

Buyer's market also for the most charmingly awful line of baseball cards there ever was.

Well, I'm certain many of their snack cake brands will continue under the stewardship of McKee or Weston or Flowers or somebody.

I don't think of it so much as a victory for consumers against high-preservative sugary crap living a long shelf life at the local convenience store, so much as a victory by competitors who have done a better job streamlining production... of high-preservative sugary crap living a long shelf life at the local convenience store.

I may have this backwards, but I think Ring Dings were pulled from the marketplace when Hostess and Drakes merged and it was seen as counterproductive to push competing products --- Ring Dings, Ding Dongs, and Big Wheels --- simultaneously.

Similar to when Mars bars were pulled from circulation after M&M/Mars acquired Snickers.

Maybe. The last time I had Ring Dings was in November of 2010. (I had to fast for a colonoscopy and I wanted to celebrate the breaking of that fast with a favorite treat from my childhood.)

Yeah, the cheap nutrition-free snack cake industry is alive and well. What's dead are industrial bakeries where men could make a living.

This of course is good news for the cheap, nutrition-free snack-cake industry, since they rely so heavily on poor people to buy their crap for their obese children.

i loved Twinkies; Cupcakes and Ding Dongs were ok. Sno Balls were the Devil's confection. And i liked the fruit pies, but they're pretty much all the same to me.
Overall i preferred their DRAKES product line: Yodels, devil dogs, Funny Bones, Ring Dings.

Somebody will buy these iconic brands in the bankruptcy auction, so the only thing lost are 18,000 jobs and the money owed creditors.

HOSTESS bought DRAKE'S in the 1990s. WONDER BREAD, too. But don't worry, you won't "lose" any of their main brands. They'll just get bought up by some other crap peddler.

By reporting that Hostess' work stoppage caused the bankruptcy without mentioning context-- namely, that the stoppage was caused by an ask for massive pay cuts/pension-payment stoppage as executives gave themselves massive raises-- the blame is implicit (if possibly unwitting).
